"During questioning Thursday by Selectman Paul Mangiafico, Ross, the HR director, admitted she was not aware of the correct procedure to terminate an employee."

Sounds like it should be Ross that is fired for not knowing her job.

Carolee hang in there and when you get your job back, watch your back for these people.

Newtown needs a major shake up and house cleaning.

The procedure for terminating an animal control officer is different by state statutes. The ACO is appointed by the First Selectman, re-appointed every year by the First Selectman, and can be terminated by the First Selectman if a complaint is received. The State Department of Agriculture oversees animal control.

The accusations you are making on this site by calling out members of the Mason family are about as cowardly as the written statement that Adria Henderson made for Sgt. Cole that she refused to sign.

It sure seems like the people who attacked his mother aren't satisfied with leaving it at that and now feel compelled to go after the family. If the writers throwing around these personal accusations towards the Masons actually had a strong case, they wouldn't be resorting to such low-level antics.

It's also funny how officers of the Canine Advocates had published letters in the Bee denying any involvement in the investigation and subsequent firing of Carolee, yet Sgt. Detective Cole testified otherwise.

Who ya' gonna trust?

I have no idea what you are talking about. Melissa in Little Egg Harbor is not related to the Masons!

How come the News Times article didn't say anything about her taking a dog so that the taxpayers could pay for it medical care and then giving it back to the owner?

It sounds like being afraid of her son isn't cowardly, it's just common sense. Who can blame Mrs. Henderson for not wanting to get involved.

I can blame her because she got involved by conspiring against Carolee in the first place. Refusing to sign an accusatory statement, publishing a letter saying she had no involvement when, according to Det.Sgt. Cole's testimony and the recorded statement by Chief Kehoe, she actually did? Those are only the fallout from to her underhanded actions. It has nothing to do with her son and you should leave him out of this. Focus on the issue at hand: Carolee was treated unfairly by her employers as well as an independent advocacy group which behaves like dictators over a town department.

If you think taxpayers would be upset about paying for a dog's broken leg, imagine how upset we are that HR Director Carol Ross' mistakes are actually costing us taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars in these hearings, not to mention the potential civil suit that could come from it.

The policy Ms. Ross failed to follow is a town policy applicable to all town employees and has nothing to do with the State.

In order for us to accept the scenario as put forth by Ms. Ross, Mr. Borst etc., we would have to believe that:

Human Resources Director Ms. Ross was unaware of any policy/procedure pertaining to the termination of town employees
Ms. Ross did not have sufficient experience/background/knowledg e to question that assumption
Ms. Ross had no prior experience with termination or violation of policy/procedure
Ms. Ross had some basis to believe that it was appropriate and acceptable to give a town employee "10 minutes" to 'think'
Ms. Ross had some basis to believe that she was under no obligation to provide written cause for the termination and
Ms. Ross informed Mr. Borst of the charges, findings and determination, which Mr. Borst accepted and acted upon without question or exception
Neither Ms. Ross nor Mr. Borst saw any need to review the personnel file for Ms. Mason

It doesn't look like anyone is winning the Excellence In Public Service Award here.
If the town excuses Ms. Ross' apparent lack of knowledge/training/experience, how then can the town fire Ms. Mason? Will she be questioned as to her lack of training and the reasons for that at the next public hearing?

Wonder what prompted the State Animal Control Officer to investigate stray cats in Newtown? More statements from concerned parties?

I think this is all a big cover up to protect her she Knew what she did wrong, and if not in two years why couldn't she check to make sure if she didn't know instead of taking things into her own hands. I feel she tried to be more than she was,the tears are a fake way for sympothy out of it.Although she obviously got a good attorney to give her another chance,I feel it is wrong, and that if she cared so much about her job within two years she would have cared enough to make sure she did things right.Half the tings she did wrong common sence would tell any ordinary untrained person not to do.If she felt she wasn't sure of her work, and cared I would think two years is long enough to ask questions, that she chose not to,to me thats the same as feeling she was above the law,it seems thats exactly what her atorney is trying to make her.On all jobs when you feel unsure you turn to someone thats just away of protecting herself along with the tears, and the vacation. No vaccinations, and taking illegal cats should say right there that she knew what she was doing,if she was hired without knowing anything that would just be rediculous, obviously shes just trying to play a victim, basically she did whatever she wanted, got away with it,and thought she could do more and more, she now is using anything possible,I know her she is intelligent, she needs to stop playing an idiot just to save her job,I understand she needs to say what her attorney tells her to,but any other job she would already be fired, this job is to protect the town, more important than other jobs, for her to get her job back, that is totaLLY rediculous, she is not a victim, the people who believed in her our the victims.

Carrollee Mason did not take in a dog with a broken leg.She was trying to help us pay for it if we would sighn the dog over to her,she lied to us and said Bears surgery was scheduled,we believed in her to find out our dog was sitting there in a pound with no surgery scheduled, she didn't give our dog back, the dog she had at some other employees house,we got up on our own 3,ooo dollars, the papers were at the girls house police had to be involved to get her back,Bear would have never been sighned over, but I didn't want her waiting for surgery,at the time we didn't have the money,we donated the dogpound 80.00 for holding our dog there for about one month, checked her weakly and was lied to everytime.I loved Carrollee thought she was a sweatheart until I found out how badly our dog was treated, she had infections in her ears from this other girls dog, wich was treated at m.t pleasant hospital. Her hip is dong great her surgery was a little over 3,000 with medications, she also needed her distemper shot witch can be verified by plumbtrees it was a month over due,and I had no idea Carrollee took her right to the vet,and didn't even bother checking on her shots. Her family can call it what ever they want, but Carrollee did tell us if we came up with the money that they would be paying for we could get her back, just to find out officer Vagonly said it was never even on record that the dog was hurt, because I wouldn't leave my dog without a written paper that I could get her back is the only way we got her back. She told us if we would lie and say she was abandoned it would be easier,me and my husband refused, tell me she didn't know without training or not that was wrong. She also had all of ou dogs records where we already paid over 500.00 to get her hip fixed.I would still like her,but to lie to me,and make my dog suffer, you can't tell me that was right,or that she didn't know even without training that that was wrong,if I knew my dog had to wait anyways, she would have never been there and that was specifically said to her,she never planned on getting Bear's surgery, more than one person at the pound told me that, and without the employee that had my dogs vet papers to take to the police officer he didn't believe me,he told me she I judst didn't have the money,to feed her,I think in one month 80.00 would have more than fed her, thank god that girl had her papers and Amy wrote that note or my dog would still be suffering and I would not have got her back,so if that story is about my dog, anyone who thinks that is a saint is crazy.

Well to the last comment that was made you must have a lot of balls considering that you are a veach in town, which the cops know very well because they are out to deal with domestic problems all the time. Carolee has taken many dogs from you like..pit bull and a black lab and also taken other dogs from your proverty that you said were strays. Also taken a dog from your mother which she used in her back yard puppy mill. That dog was kept in a cage for three years. Which was so scared of people it took us a year to inter act with the dog before we could adopted her. That dog now lives with a older lady in newtown. The dog and onwer were present at the hearing in support of carolee. NOW TO BEAR, that dog was never in the pound that dog was with a girl who worked for the town who is also employed by a vet in monroe.Which if it was up to her she would of never given the dog up. Lori is your mother the one who is up at the town hall asking for money and help. YOU KNOW WHAT GO TO THE PLOICE STATION IN NEWTOWN AND YOU CHECK OUT THE BOOTH AND VEACH NAME AND YOU PEOPLE DECIDE.
