Illegal alien pleads guilty in deaths of girl, mom

CARMEL - An illegal immigrant with no license and a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of vehicular homicide in the deaths of Lori and Kayla Donohue, the mother and daughter he mowed down with a pickup truck as they left the second-grader's dance class.

Conses Garcia-Zacarias will face 8 1/3 to 25 years in state prison when he is sentenced in January. While there was some initial discussion of shaving the prison term to 7 to 21 years, Putnam County Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher York said no deal had been offered to Garcia-Zacarias in exchange for his guilty plea.

Regardless, Putnam County Court Judge James Rooney indicated from the bench Wednesday that he would not be bound by a deal in imposing a sentence for a crime that left many grief-stricken and outraged.

"I am free to sentence you to any lawful sentence, including the maximum," Rooney said.

Lori Donohue, 37, and Kayla, 8, were walking out of Seven Stars School of Performing Arts around 6:30 p.m. June 8 when, prosecutors said, Garcia-Zacarias sped down Brewster's Main Street in an F-350 Ford pickup truck, driving on the wrong side of the road before barreling through a T-shaped intersection at routes 6 and 22 and running them over.

Kayla, a student at JFK Elementary School in Southeast, was pronounced dead at the scene while her mother, a Yonkers native and sales manager for Dorian Drake International Inc. in Harrison, was taken by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she died.

Speaking through an interpreter, Garcia-Zacarias, 35, expressed his remorse in court and said he agreed to plead guilty to spare the Donohue family the pain of a trial. Bob Donohue, Lori's husband and Kayla's father, survives, as does 5-year-old Christopher Donohue.

This tragedy and similar crimes caused by illegal aliens would never have happened if illegals were not allowed to sneak in and stay in our country in the first place.

The woman who employed this illegal, housed this illegal and owned the truck he drove, along with all employers of alien aliens are just as guilty, including all the pro-illegal open border nutcases in America.

Immigration teams arrest more criminal offenders

LOS ANGELES—Immigration agents assigned to track down people who have ignored deportation orders have increasingly arrested immigrants with criminal records during the past year, new data show.
Data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement show a shift from the prior three years, when more than 70 percent of immigrants arrested by fugitive operations teams had no criminal histories.

About 45 percent of the 35,000 immigrants arrested by the teams during the 2009 fiscal year had criminal convictions. The figure is up from 23 percent during the prior year.

ICE has long claimed it focused on arresting immigrants with criminal convictions who ignored orders from immigration judges to leave the country.

But most people arrested had no criminal histories, which prompted outcries from immigrant rights groups.

ICE director John Morton said earlier this year the agency would focus on finding immigrants with criminal records or who have ignored deportation orders. However, he said other illegal immigrants would be arrested if they were present during the operations,

"The goal is to prevent crime rather than simply to respond to it," ICE spokesman Brandon Alvarez-Montgomery said.

One reason for the change is that agents are working more closely with local law enforcement to develop leads, ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice said.

Immigrants rights advocates were skeptical of the numbers and wondered whether the data marked a real

change in a program they have long criticized as a source of fear in immigrant neighborhoods.
It's unclear whether the Obama administration has shifted the program's focus or whether agents in some regions have just been more successful at finding criminals, said Carl Bergquist, policy advocate for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles.

"I think the jury is still out," added Paromita Shah, associate director of the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild.

Earlier this year, Morton also announced the fugitive teams had stopped using arrest quotas.

Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, said agents should have discretion about who they arrest, given what he considers the daunting task of finding more than 500,000 immigrants who have evaded deportation orders.

"They've got to start somewhere, and they look for people obviously that have national security issues as well as serious criminals," said Krikorian, whose organization favors stricter limits on immigration.

"As long as they're not sending the message that other illegal aliens will simply be let go, then I don't have a problem with it." he said.

We are constantly bombarded in the mainstream media (MSM) with tear-jerking stories about how the illegal aliens among us, who have entered America by the millions in violation of our immigration laws, are just trying to make a better life for themselves. Criminals are also trying to make a better life for themselves, but we don't see any sob stories in the MSM about them!

In fact, the MSM seems to go out of its way to hide criminal activity committed by illegal aliens. Here in Wisconsin, it's no secret that the vast majority of Hispanic/Latino residents are residing here illegally. In my area, their population has doubled in the past five years, because the mantra here is "Celebrate Diversity!"

When a crime is reported in the local newspaper, committed by someone with an obviously Hispanic/Latino name, no mention is made of the culprit's immigration status. When I phoned the local police station, to ask about statistics relating to crimes committed by illegal aliens, I was told that they don't keep such statistics. When I asked why not, I was told that they were not asked to do that, when filing crime reports at the state level.

I went to the next level and contacted the state law enforcement authorities in Madison, in order to pursue my inquiry there. It turned out that they didn't gather information on crimes committed by illegal aliens, either, because it wasn't requested by federal authorities.

In fact, they no longer collected data on crimes committed by Hispanics/Latinos, because that had been determined to be an ethnic group, not a racial group. Hispanics/Latinos were now counted as whites. The other racial group classifications are black, Asian, and native American Indian.(I couldn't help thinking that people way up the law enforcement organizational chart must have decided they want that kind of information buried.)

Fortunately, a number of congressmen requested that the General Accountability Office (GAO) investigate and report information on criminal aliens incarcerated in federal and state prisons and local jails. The resulting GAO report, published in April 2005, revealed that illegal aliens make up 27% of the prison population.(The oft-cited figure of 12 million illegal aliens in the country means that they make up just 4% of the general population.)

Since illegal aliens are unlikely to be committing white-collar crimes, that figure likely underestimates the amount of violent crime committed by illegal aliens. Using the GAO report, Representative Steve King of Iowa points out that 25 Americans, on average, are killed by illegal aliens every day (about evenly split between motor vehicle accidents and outright murder).

Do the math: That works out to more than 9,000 deaths per year, or more than 36,000 deaths over the past four years. That's more than ten times the number of Americans killed in Iraq over the past four years!

Oddly, I've seen people in my hometown protesting against the war in Iraq, but I've never seen anyone protesting against the illegal alien invasion that is killing tens of thousands of Americans right here on our own soil.

The report from FSM estimates that the 267,000 illegal aliens currently incarcerated in the nation are responsible for nearly 1,300,000 crimes, ranging from drug arrests to rape and murder. Such statistics, Cutler contends, debunk the claim that illegal immigration is a victimless crime.

Good luck finding any reference to such facts in official crime analysis. The LAPD and the L.A. city attorney recently requested an injunction against drug trafficking in Hollywood, targeting the 18th Street Gang and the “non–gang members” who sell drugs in Hollywood for the gang. Those non–gang members are virtually all illegal Mexicans, smuggled into the country by a ring organized by 18th Street bigs. The Mexicans pay off their transportation debts to the gang by selling drugs; many soon realize how lucrative that line of work is and stay in the business."

"Unfortunately, the majority of illegal aliens who are here are engaged in criminal activity. Identity theft, use of fraudulent social security numbers and green cards, tax evasion, driving without licenses represent some of the crimes that are engaged in by the majority of illegal aliens on a daily basis merely to maintain and hide their illegal status.
In addition, violent crime and drug distribution and possession is also prevalent among illegal aliens. Over 25% of today's federal prison population are illegal aliens. In some areas of the country, 12% of felonies, 25% of burglaries and 34% of thefts are committed by illegal aliens."

- The increase in the number of illegal immigrants and an overall decrease in crime cannot be proven to be related, especially with the illegals comprising a minority of the population. The crime rate by non illegals could have simply decreased by more.

You read about it in the newspapers, "They come here for a better life they come for jobs." Today, in excess of 15 million illegal aliens now operate in the USA--not all of them come here to work. It's not that we don't have crime in America. Two million prisoners inhabit our prisons. However, according to the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, DC, an astounding 30 percent of those prisoners constitute illegal aliens at a cost of $1.6 billion annually. That adds up to 600,000 foreigners ripping off taxpayer dollars as prisoners sit in our cells during their incarceration period.

They shouldn't have gotten into the United States in the first place, but the crimes they committed brought horrific death, misery and suffering to American citizens. A summer ago in Boulder, Colorado, eight illegal aliens raped eight American women. The aliens fled back to Mexico. In nearby City of Longmont, a used car dealer suffered so much theft from his lot that he went bankrupt. An illegal alien killed a California Police Officer David Marsh, last year. Robberies and break-ins have become the norm in California. They've become the pattern in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and dozens of other states. But the sobering realities concerning these crimes point to one fact--they are illegal aliens.

In her recent scathing report in the City Journal,'THE ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIME WAVE' by investigative reporter, Heather MacDonald, demonstrates that our country suffers an imported crime wave.

A full 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide, which totaled 1,500 last year in Los Angeles, pointed to illegal aliens. The Washington Post covers the story of yet another murder by an illegal alien in today’s edition, this time in Loudoun County. The carnage visited on our nation by criminal illegal aliens costs more innocent lives each year than the number of American lives lost annually in the global war on terror. The left tries to use the burden we bear in protecting our nation from the ravages of terrorism as an argument for why we should abandon this fight, but at the same time ignores the greater loss of lives that result from our lackadaisical approach to enforcing our immigration laws at the local, state and federal levels. These tragedies are too frequent, and too disturbing to tolerate continued inaction by our government at all levels.

FYI- The people who own the dance studio, and the building still patronize businesses that employ illegal immigrants. Also, so do the judges, lawyers, police, mayor, and so on. I guess they haven't heard about the boycott in their own town.
