I think Newtown = Lerman. Same syntax, along with identical comments in defense of Lerman and opposed to Paulsen.

How difficult can it be to keep your nose clean (as far as the Courts here go) when you're living on another continent? Hopefully, we've seen the last of this kind of activity concerning the schools and politics in Bethel.

was everyone who marched and carried a sign also a spokesperson for SOS? The officer's of any PAC are the spokespeople. Other's may have been participants; walking door to door to give out flyer's, hosting lawn signs, etc.
By the way the 'crimson' sign would be Maroon and White, the colors of BHS;-)

Paulsen seems like a tortured soul, he used to mean well way beck when, but always had a chip on his shoulder and its has only increased over the span his life. Hopefully this will be a wake up call and he finds his way back to a better life and stops making enemies. I doubt Lerman is totally innocent in this, but Matt obviously over-reacted as he often does.

Mr. Lerman did speak at the podium for the SOS (both at the HS and Muni-center) rally in October of 2006.
So did others.
He had the appearance of being as-if a spokesman (from the pictures), but could have simply been representing himself with many SOS folks in near proximity.
That does not make him a spokesman for a group, but just an individual willing to speak.

Regardless, what Paulsen did was stupid and wrong, and the "nya-nya" type comments here in this blog are equally insipid.

May I suggest folks simply leave Mr. Lerman alone, let Mr. Paulsen do his special probation and put this all behind?

Hey, I've mixed it up on these blogs a bit during election time, but really, enough is enough. Makes Bethel look really dumb!

What kind of childish game is this? Newtown is where the ISP is located, many posters show Newtown as their location - you may be dealing with someone entirely different than you suspect. I've heard that 'Bloviator' is Bob Crnic but it wouldn't be fair to repeat that - wait - whoops!

I'm not a Matt Paulsen supporter. I felt he was a terribly negative influence on the Bethel political scene. I am another "carpetbagger" who has lived here 30 of the last 35 years. However, Paulsen has had his day in court. It's over. There's no justification for what he did. I sympathisize with Mr Lerman, I would never want anything like this to happen to someone I know. And I certainly can't understand all the personal attacks on the victim. However, it's time to heal. Enough is enough. Apparently Matt's parents are struggling with what has happened. To them, I say, I'm sure they did the best they could. They should not hold themselves responsible for what their adult child did. Sometimes our children do stupid things. It's not the parents fault. It's the adult child's responsibility. On another issue, what does being gay or not have to do with this? It's quite sad how people lose their commen sense when they think they have been assigned the right to judge. My point Rodney King put it...can't we all just get along?

Aside from a real crime being committed and not punishment, the real irony of this article is that Bill Michael is surprised about how a class B misemeanor got into the headlines. I've wondered for years how Paulsen's false accusations against town and school officials always got into the headlines. If a "political ploy" of knowingly and falsely accusing BOE employees of incorrectly using a credit card gets headlines, why shouldn't a real crime of stealing a social security number and using it to commit fraud get headlines, especially when a guy has claimed for years to be the conscience of Bethel.

Billy Michael, the group's treasurer, and Michael Duff, a fiscally conservative member of the town's Board of Education, were in court Monday to support Paulsen.

"I'm in disbelief at the media circus that this Class B misdemeanor has created," Michael said.

"Matt is a decent human being," Duff said. "He got drawn into a tit-for-tat episode and it escalated to this."

Funny stuff. Here is what Mike Duff says about the law on his website:
"I am against the breaking of any law and very much against breaking the law so as to obtain illegal entry into the United States."
Yet this elected official showed up in court to support criminal Matt Paulsen then tells the newspaper that the crime was merely "a tit-for-tat incident that escalated". Does the man know the meaning of the word hypocrisy? Probably not, it does have four whole syllables after all. I guess its ok to break the law if you agree with Duff's politics. Disgusting man.

PS, regarding the credit card incident last year, not only did Paulsen lie about is information he accused a Putnam house employee of giving him the (nonexistent) credit card info--a serious crime that could have lost Putnam House its liquor license among other things. The owner was livid at the accusations.
