Dave and Lisa, I feel sorry for your kids teachers if your kids have the same lack of reading comprehension as you two. You provoked Holly without reason. She made it quite simple for you.

I respectully disagree. If maybe you had the comprehension skills that you speak of, then you would know that Dave's children are grown and doing quite well. I have yet to speak of mine but since you are concerned, he also has graduated from HHS, has completed his degree and now is doing well in his chosen profession. All of this from the same community and the same HS that both Holly and Pablo seem to think is inadequate to produce successful scholars.
As for provocation, Holly's childish resort to name calling speaks for itself. And no, all she does is just makes it simple for herself.

It's real simple to live with the "it is what it is" mentality and I can't speak for Dave, but my son and I have always had the "it is what we make it" determination. And as it turns out, we both live well and happy despite our suppossed lack of resourses!

Holly said that she graduated from Holston and seemed happy with her education and success. Also seemed to "make it" through by that same determination.

I read her comments as not knocking the schools but just pointing out that our kids do have a slight disadvantage (starting out) when they go on to college.

Zappa....no one attacked poor little Holly.

That young lady chose, of her own free will to throw out insults, and call people names.

Again, you are following in her same path of immaturity, throwing out insults questioning people's reading comprehension???

When will you children get it? Insulting people and calling names is an admission on your part that you had no valid point to your argument.

Okay. I used the wrong adjective. It should have been irrational.

What is your argument? That Holston is a fantastic learning facility that competes with any high school education in the state?

Not at all....

My argument is that Holly, or Pablo, or you cannot make a blanket statement about the school.

I say that because I have three living examples who graduated from there, that are intellectual equals to most anyone their age...they are all high achievers, and I think it shows an overwhelming lack of wisdom to make such a blanket statement about the student population as a whole.

That is where I took exception. I do not go through life with rose colored glasses, but I can say without reservation, that my children received a good education. They are all three doing very well, and were perfectly prepared for college.

My point and I think Lisa’s as well, is that you get from your education what you put into it. It is not the responsibility of the teacher to ensure you learn…rather, it is incumbent upon the parents to instill in their children, that it is their responsibility to accept the gift of a public education, and take advantage of those opportunities.

I understand than many parents do not put a priority on education…but many do, and I am one of them. As does my ex-wife, who is the mother of my three kids who graduated from Holston. Do I think it is the greatest school there is? No. But I think if you REALLY want an education there, you will get it.

Bottom line is that parents and students can’t arbitrarily blame an institution for their lack of preparation. In my family, that did not seem to be the case.

I learned reading, writing, and arithmetic in school, diversity in the army and workplace. One thing that I learned in school and it has served me well is called compound interest. Save your dough.

I have a hard time saving my dough and I blame the banks, lol. The banks in this area just don't offer the services that big city banks have and they don't have access to the elite savings and loan deals that banks in other places have. Since I don't have family or friends who are bankers my chances of saving dough are slim! It's not my fault tho, so I don't worry about it. LMBO

I think Washington county school board should combine HHS and PHHS in to one and they would all kick AHS a$$ and save a lot of county money and it will probably come to this in the near future anyway..

I go to holston and graduate this month:) I have a 2.0 GPA not including the classes of this school year. I do well when I go to school. all of my teachers explain everything to me of needed. so for u to call the school lousy has to be because u more than likely didn't pay attention. I for one am not incompetent to some of the nonsense these comments make. no, holston is not the greatest school but atleast there is one! teachers do not deny u because of relatives, trust me if that was the case I'd be dumber than a hat rack! I believe if u want to succeed in school u must set a goal and stick to it. that's my opinion.
