Why are some students getting by with not doing anything in class and teachers passing them just because they dont want to deal with them?

Well duh.....I think it is about time for parents to step up to the plate also and take more responsibility instead of letting kids by with EVERYTHING!!!!

It's been this way forever so why start whining about the sh*t now? FYI, it's like that in all the schools around here.

Here's the thing. It's holston, it's the shittyest school around. filled with dumbasses and stuck ups. i mean, there's not really anything you can do besides not obey their stupid rules and crap and show them that if they won't comply, neither will you. but it don't matter. Honest oppinion- the longer kids go to holston the dumber they are. not calling them dumb, just sayin that they prob lost a few IQ points, lol

I do very well in holston. teachers do care, how do u get that we get off easy? u take a government test and see if u pass. I've list no IQ points, if anything I've learned a lot. if you have a problem with the school go to the school or the school bored. topix wont change a thing!

I went to Holston, ugh torture. And no, I wasn't one of those kids that didn't care and just wanted to party hard. I wanted an education and an opportunity, but unless you were a member of an elite group it wasn't offered and the teachers didn't give a crap.

If you feel that your child is getting by doing nothing then it's your responsibility to make them do all the work. I went to Holston and now have two kids that will go there too. The teachers can only do so much. The rest is the parents responsibility. It's not the teachers job to raise your kids. You got a problem with how they are doing in school? Address it with them AND their teachers and work something out. It's not your kid? Well... then it's not your concern.

I have three kids who graduated from this "terrible" school...

My oldest works full time, but goes to school at night when his work schedule allows...

My daughter graduated from Emory & Henry last year; with 2 bachelor degrees...the sky is the limit for her.

Another son is a sophomore and E&H, and he is on his way, and has been accepted for the 5 year program, where he will graduate with his bachelor's degree, and masters, with teaching credentials.

My kids were given a wonderful education, and are now moving on to bigger and better things.

I live in Florida, and I can't take credit for their success...their mother pushed them to excel in school, and somehow, in the midst of financial struggles, they seemed to have emerged from the ashes.

I have nothing but praise for Holston High School, as well as Damascus Middle School, and Rhea Valley Elementary...

If you would have said Harvard, I would be impressed but a nutless monkey can get into E&H.

So you liken yourself to a nutless monkey? That makes sense too.

You can say what you want, but my daughter finished...she graduated, and that takes a lot of commitment.

For you to denigrate ANYONE getting a college education is proof positive that you are ill educated, and have very little wisdom. It also reveals our obvious immaturity.

Yea, college is good and all but Holston isn't. And I graduated early from there, with a 3.8, and still entered into college very, VERY, ill-prepared. So no, I'm not denigrating your daughter, I'm still putting down Holston. Not so much E&H, but let's face it, it's not that hard to get in to.

Getting into college and FINISHING college are two entirely different things.

I have known many people who have "gotten into" much respected schools; Auburn, Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio State...and flunked out, or were put on academic probation and forced out....

Those are individuals, incidentally that I have either worked with or had children who were accepted...
I have been around. I am in the Information Technology field, and have been for well over 20 years, so I have come across people from all walks of life, which have graduated from a myriad of schools, or were accepted to some of the most respected schools in the country.

Many of those people would be TRILLED to have a bachelor's degree from E&H. Absolutely THRILLED...

You mentioned Harvard...said you would be impressed if it was Harvard? Have you ever worked with a Harvard graduate? Because I have...and let me tell you, they are no different than anyone...in fact, I have generally found that their real world problem solving skills left something to be desired. If it was in a book, they would own you...but if it was in the real world application of a discipline, they fell overwhelmingly short.

I can truthfully say this, because I have worked closely with at least a handful of Harvard graduates, and that is more than most people I know.

Take it for what it is. If you were not prepared, and you have identified that, well then at least that is half the battle. Life is not over for you, it has just begun. Do yourself a favor and see what areas you are lacking, and work to improve those, say…at a community college. There is ABSOLUTLEY no shame in that at all.
