LOL, I wonder which it was;

1) Jesus made him take out the infidels,

2) He was too stinking old to be driving anymore.

I'll bet the devout church going old man was good at finger pointing at others, now his money all gone now.:)

He should never have been allowed into the parade. The person who allowed him to do this should be held totally responsible and made liable. If they want to have a "Hiker's Parade", then just let the hikers themselves do the parade thing and don't make a circus out of it. This is something that was bound to happen sooner or later, just remember bigger is not always better. When the Mayor makes a statement in the paper that steps would be taken to see that this never happens again I for one would certaily like to see those plans. As far as working on a plan to screen the participants he should understand that when you allow people to jusr join in the parade at any time screening means nothing.

Same old man has driven vehicles in parade before. Apparently, he hiked the trail years ago. In the past, he has jumped out and cussed kids who hit his vehicle with squirt guns or water balloons. Witnessed that and he did not seem like a very nice fellow.

Some questions as to whether his driver's license is still valid. If not, then no insurance. Again, however, if not, potential liability on town for not checking. Also heard that he took out a fence at a local business a few weeks ago.

When people rent/use a school, church or other building, they usually have to show proof of insurance that insures the owner of the building.

To drive a vehicle in a Town sponsored parade, there should be a requirement of a valid driver's license and at least proof of a moderate amount of liability insurance. After all, a parade is exclusive use of property belonging to the state, in this case. All other traffic is blocked. Don't know, but I assume Town has to get permission from VDOT.

Mayor talked about things to review, well, those are two suggestions. And those are very minimal intrusions. Especially if we are gonna allow Tennessee vehicles - which do not require insurance to be tagged - in the parade.

It was an accident. Would not matter if he had the King of Republicans okay it still would have happened. It is a small town parade with f'ing fire trucks and bucked tooth beauties. We don't need any government regulation or intrusion. Dumbasses banning water balloons was stupid enough. Anyone that wants to be in the parade should be able to be in the parade. 27 years without incident. No need to change everything just because of one unfortunate mishap.

This man has been to Abingdon hospital ER multiple times and was told each time there was nothing wrong with him. I guess now they believe him because he is still in the hospital after this. If you are looking for someone to blame start there.

In all video clips, clearly at TN tag. Bedrock must have seen and filmed someone else.

Bob - are you completely nuts, or what? "Anyone who wants to be in a parade should be?" Geez. There shoud be at least minimal standards. Bet there will in the future. One out of 27 is one too much. Bet the folks that got hurt or almost got hurt don't think, "heck, it's been safe for 26 previous years, so my broken arm shouldn't hurt..." Completely nuts. Should be minimal requirements to drive in a parade. Should be minimal requirements for Bob to post on Topix...

THIS WAS AN ACCIDENT. NOTHING MORE. Its sad that it happened but to do all this crappy writing is useless. It is a miracle that no one was killed, but again, it was an accident. I love the celebration as well as many others do. I don't understand how the rest of the nights events continued on, but they did. Its a bit hard to celebrate when many have been hurt.

Accidents do not occur with automobiles, but crashes certainly occur when you couple uncontrolled ego with unforgivable negligence.
