I am just a resident of the area.i don't wanna cause even more fighting or bickering, however if someone comes to my house and takes my sick mother of child to the hospital I think it would make me feel better to see them nice dressed and clean cut rather then if someone shows up all dirty and beardy. Also if your getting paid then I think there should be rules and guidelines.Just think what it would be like if you walked into O'Charley's and everyone there including the cooks were able to wear what they wanted it would not be a good place to go.I know I wouldnt go there to eat.Maybe yal should stop fighting and get along with each other and if ya don't wanna get along then maybe you should find a new carrer path because all this fighting could inpact someones life in a bad way..Just remember why you are with the rescue squad, and try to think of the patient and the patients family....Thanks for reading..Good Luck to you all and Thank you for your service..
just for your info

thanks for your reply it is nice to hear a resident of the communinty feel the same over the professional dress. im not fighting with them just trying to get them to understand how important looking like a professional is in the medical field .Have you ever thaught about going to a county board of directors meeting and asking for some changes to the ems system in washington county as far as response times and staffing of ambulances to make sure someone is avaiable at all times to respond in your time of need it is just not right for someone to have to wait for help to get to them sometimes 45-60 mins afterthey call because they have no crew available and have to get someone from washimgton county rescue or private service to take the call you are a tax payer and when you call 911 you deserve a response in a timely manor, this county needs a real overhaul off the ems system.I think a county run system would be a benefit for the whole county and their citizens.

Currently we have 2 paramedics on the squad, one paid the other is volunteer. The volunteer is a paramedic instructor at Virginia Highlands Community College, and the other is one of the best paramedics I know and has been in the EMS field since he was 14. Needless to say, both are great paramedics.

I've read all of these comments about DVRS. Everyone on here that has posted unfavorable comments about the crew need to sign up for the crew. Go take all the classes that will make u eligible to be on an ambulance. Then do your day jobs, go home and prepare to run your call night. Make sure that you get your family time in early, housework done, all yard work, farm work, ect. Remember, don't complain that you don't have time to run calls because your kids have a ballgame that you have to go to or the yard need mowing.
My god people. What the hell are you complaining about. These people give up so much time just to help others that are sick. If the duty crew is already on a call and another call goes out who do you think comes out? The people mowing the yard, the ones working on their farm, ect. Stop your bitching and become a volunteer. Help your community. If you can't then back off of some damn fine people that none of you know nothing about.

But can they perform in the back of an Ambulance? Has anyone ever seen them in action?

Yes, they both perform very well in the back of an ambulance. One of them has been my duty partner for 7 years and as stated before, he is one of the best paramedics I know.

How about the volunteer paramedic? Most volunteers are not as good as a full time paramedics that do it every day. Is the volunteer paramedic any good? Has anybody seen him in action?

If you want to know how good he is I suggest you go ask his employeer, Bristol Regional Medical Center Emergency Room and also Va Highlands Community College. They will tell you how good he really is.

As stated previously, BOTH of the paramedics "paid and volunteer" are highly trained and very competent.

How many PATIENTS have registered complaints about the clothing worn to calls or the care they have received??000000000!!! Most of those DVRS serves are friends and neighbors. Anyone who has any concerns or complaints about anything related to DVRS including personnel, training, financial audits, etc can contact the Squad at anytime. It is sad that someone chooses to cast stones anonymously at a group of dedicated people who have freely donated MANY hours of their lives for the past 25 years to serve the community. It seems to be such a waste of time when they could be doing something useful like VOLUNTEERING....

It is not casting stones it is just trying to get ems workers paid or volunteer to step up and look professional and bring the standard up in the southwest va area and make ems a professinal job like the fire services are viewed if people would act and dress more professional we would not be called ambulance drivers i have spent twenty years in ems and every time i hear some one say the ambulance drivers are here i just want to smack them in the mouth.

Would anybody trust you life or family with that paramedic working on them? That will tell what kind of paramedic he is.

Yes I would trust both paramedics with my life and my families lives. They are both very highly trained and continue to learn everyday. Go to BRMC ER and to VHCC and ask about them. Go to WCLSC and talk to them.
Everyone needs to get off this topic because these people are here to help everyone in this community.
