Whitfield County's taxpayers should never spend another dime on road improvements. Building four lane roads here was a total waste of money, because no one knows what the extra lane is for - PASSING!, that's why they call it the PASSING lane, or FAST lane, and it's even a state law, and is in the driver's handbook when you get your license - "KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS" Three fourths of the drivers, whether on the Cleveland Hwy, the Chatsworth Hwy, or the Bypass, drive in the left(FAST) lane, regardless of their speed, relative the cars in the right(SLOW) lane. They either have no understanding of why there are two lanes in the same direction, they think they have been appointed(by God) to regulate all of the other people's speed, or their driving skills are so poor that they feel they have to get in left(FAST) lane at the Cleveland Hwy to have plenty of time to get over into the left turn lane at Shugart Rd. to go to Walmart. How can anyone not know that they're driving in the left(FAST) lane close to the same speed, the same speed, or in many cases, at a slower speed than the cars in the right(SLOW) lane, and how can they not be aware of the fact the nearest car in front of them is a half mile away and is still pulling away from them, and there are 25 cars behind them in the left(Fast) lane and more are still gathering - with one car after the other squeezing around them in the right(SLOW)lane?

While you are driving around be on the lookout for a handicapped tag or( mirror hanging tag) and a murray co decal,or fish symbol. Use extreme caution, stop, change roads, fall way back. I am not picking on the people that drive with at least 2 of the aforementioned items but they will do something irrational or dangerous before they end their trip!!! Please look for these items and then make a comment. It is just about guaranteed.

Just drove up the Cleveland Hwy behind a car going 40 MPH, beside a car going 40MPH for 5 miles. It is difficult to believe that anyone can be that stupid.

How hard can it be? Four lanes were designed to improve traffic flow - the left lane is for passing or, if you want to get into the middle turn lane, it's not necessary to do it 5 miles before you turn left.

If your driving skills are so poor that you can't use your turn signal and mirrors to move over near where you are going to turn, you should surrender your driver's license - if you think no one should be driving faster than you, you need to surrender your license. If you don't know if anyone is behind you,or beside you, you need to surrender your license - if you don't have a license, you need to park your car.

Sounds like you are one of those brilliant, left lane at any speed, drivers - either stupid, or a sociopath, who confuses annoying people with controlling them.

I'd rather have a slow driver than a fool that wants to squeeze between 2 cars just so they can be 1 car closer to the next red light.

I'd rather have a slow driver than a person that has to go 70mph to get to the front of the line and then turn.

I'd rather have a slow driver than a person who thinks it's fun to race at every red light.

Defensive driving. Take care of yourself and don't worry about the others. I ride in the fast lane on the bypass because more often than not, I'm going to be turning left soon, and people are so inconsiderate in this town that they won't let you over.

I'd rather have a slow driver than most of the road cops in Whitfield county, because frankly, they're egomaniacs.

@ NOT-to-smart-guy

Q. Isn't slower always safer?

A. No, federal and state studies have consistently shown that the drivers most likely to get into accidents in traffic are those traveling significantly below the average speed. According to research, those driving 10 mph slower than the prevailing speed are more likely to be involved in an accident. That means that if the average speed on an interstate is 70 mph, the person traveling at 60 mph is more likely to be involved in an accident than someone going 70 or even 80 mph.

Q. Aren't slow drivers safer than the other fools I listed above?
A. Yes.

Q. Did I say driving under the speed limit was safe?
A. No.

Q. Does driving the speed limit mean slow?
A. These days, yes it does. But I guess you were confused, slow is a rather ambiguous term.

"I'd rather have a slow driver than a fool that wants to squeeze between 2 cars just so they can be 1 car closer to the next red light."

People who squeeze between two cars have given the driver, who is impeding traffic in the passing lane, ample time to get over. The fool is the driver blocking traffic flow. Several miles separate traffic lights.

"I'd rather have a slow driver than a person that has to go 70mph to get to the front of the line and then turn."

Drive slow all you want, but do it in the right lane, where you're supposed to be driving.

"Defensive driving. Take care of yourself and don't worry about the others. I ride in the fast lane on the bypass because more often than not, I'm going to be turning left soon, and people are so inconsiderate in this town that they won't let you over."

I have better things to do than to drive behind stupid people, and apparently, you don't have the skills necessary to be driving, if you can't change lanes. I never have a problem.

"I'd rather have a slow driver than most of the road cops in Whitfield county, because frankly, they're egomaniacs."

That statement makes no sense. I would like to see the "road cops" enforce the law when people like you are impeding traffic flow.

"...I guess you were confused, slow is a rather ambiguous term."

I'm not confused. You're confused. What is ambiguous about slow?

I consistently drive in the left lane on the Interstate in order to avoid merging traffic from alk the on ramps. However, I do drive at 10mph over the posted speed limit. What pisses me off is when someone comes up behind me and starts tailgating. Nope, i'm not going to move over for them, especially since I'm already exceeding the speed limit. Get too close to my bumper and I'll just start coasting and slowing down.

It's ignorant dick heads like you who cause most of the accidents. People driving faster than you aren't going to slow down and drive behind your dumb ass - you are just creating a dangerous situation for everyone if faster drivers have to maneuver through other traffic to get around you.

I consistently drive 85 on the Interstate, but I still check my rear view mirror, and if someone is gaining on me, I have the good sense and driving skills required to use my turn sigals and move over to the center lane. Only idiots think that it's their job to regulate the speed of other drivers.

If you can't use your turn signals and mirrors to change lanes when traffic is merging, you don't have the skills necessary to be driving. Your stupidity will eventually kill someone, and unfortunately, it will probably not be you, but some innocent person as a result of your actions.

If you must drive in any one certain lane to feel like you are capable of operating your motor vehicle in a safe manner while traversing the roadways......you are not a competent driver. Please check your rearview mirror, then your right side view mirror and ensure that there is noone in your blind spot, beside you or coming up fast behind you. After you know that you are safe to do so.....procede to cross the middle lane and tbe slow lane and pull your car over to the shoulder. Now dial a towtruck and a friend....and do us all a favor.....don't get on the interstate again.

Hey genius. Here's the law in GA. "If below speed limit in left lane and blocking overtaking traffic, must move right." Doesn't say you can't drive in the left lane, just means you are supposed to move to the right if blocking traffic. Do you want 1000 cars driving in one lane up Cleveland Hwy? You can't even get up it now with 2 lanes. Flip me off all you want, I will use the left lane and laugh at you coming upon by tail instead of being nice and letting you over. Stay your distance and I might move.

What dumba$$es. If I'm already going 10 mph over the speed limit you expect me to move over for your lawbreaking speeding reckless a$$ and accuse me of causing accidents? You need your drivers license revoked. I don't have to move over and you can just kiss my hairy a$$!

@ dickhead, et.al., a.k.a. the three stooges,
When I encounter morons who aren't smart enough to be driving, like you all, I generally just pass in the turn lane or on the shoulder, and go on my way...

You realize that that 10 over is breaking the law too, correct? Also, are you aware that the interstate has at least 3 lanes? I routinely run 80 to 85, but use the fast lane as it was intended, for passing. The middle lane is for average speeds. I bet you are one of those co$ksuckers that don't dim their lights either because it don't hurt your eyes. I'll just park in the fast lane at 60 and make people accommodate me. This is no different. You might want to get yourself a doctor appointment to see if you have a pussy growing in.

beaner,
They are mentally slow. Driving on a road with two lane going in the same direction confuses them. Based on their ignorant statements, they have yet to grasp what the extra lane is for.
