A Rocky Face man remained hospitalized on Monday and a man remains in jail on an immigration hold after a collision between a pickup truck and motorcycle Friday night in Tunnel Hill, authorities said.

Larry Stewart, 61, was driving a motorcycle north on Highway 41 just before 8 p.m. with his granddaughter on back when a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Jose Jorge Patino-Monroy, 26, of 3720 Water Tower Lane, Tunnel Hill, pulled into its path off Campbell Road, officials said.

Stewart was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, where a spokeswoman said he was in “fair” condition Monday afternoon. His granddaughter, 7-year-old Baylee Martin, was taken by ambulance to Hamilton Medical Center with abrasions and cuts on one of her legs. A Georgia State Patrol operator said the wreck was almost a head-on collision since Patino-Monroy was on the wrong side of the road.

Stewart’s wife, Patricia Calfee Stewart, called his condition “critical” when contacted at Erlanger on Monday.

“His right femur is broken (and) both ankles are crushed,” she said.“He had surgery for 10 hours on Saturday, surgery for two hours on Monday morning and he has to go back into surgery, probably on Wednesday. He has no skin on his ankles and they don’t have any tissue to hold the (surgical) plates and stuff in place. So they’re talking about skin grafts (being) the best procedure to try to save his foot. He’s in what I would call critical condition, horrible pain. Our granddaughter has some road rash and stitches on her right leg from bad gashes, but no broken bones and no internal injuries.”

Patino-Monroy was charged by the state patrol with leaving the scene of an accident, driving without a valid license, failure to yield right of way, failure to report an accident with injuries, driving on the wrong side of the road and causing serious injury by vehicle, a felony. He is on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold at the county jail, a spokeswoman said.

Patino-Monroy will make a bond appearance in Whitfield County Superior Court today, a clerk said. District Attorney Kermit McManus said he is not familiar with the case, but that if Patino-Monroy is given a bond, ICE officials must decide whether to let him make the bond and go free or come and get him for detention at their facility near Atlanta.

Maybe some of you bleeding heart liberals who continue spewing the lie"they are only here to work" and think these illegal alien criminals should have amnisty can go to the ICU and explain some of your logic to these victims of his crime. You might also explain to him how this criminal is allowed to make bond so he can flee to his home country and avoid prosecution leaving his victims holding the bag for all their losses and medical expense.
The sad part about this situation is if he is allowed to make bond not only will he flee the country, but he will probably return within 2 weeks and resume his comfortable life living off the American taxpayers while his victims continue to suffer.
He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident. That goes to show you just how much the criminal valued the life of another human being. The victims were seriousy injured, and instead of trying to help, the illegal decided to save his own hide instead and run.
Please folks, keep writing our represenatives and governor demanding Georgia to follow Arizona's lead in ridding our state of these illegal alien criminals. It is obvious the Feds are not going to uphold our constitution and defend the people from this invasion. It is now up to our individual states to enforce our laws.
Keep it fun

Rhis burns me up, I think it's going to be like the Illegal that killed Audy Burnett, this one will not be prosecuted either, he get's a smake on the wrist and a free ride out of the country so that he can come back in ILLEGALLY AGAIN! Shame on ICE for not prosecuting the LAW BREAKERS!He is here illegally, does not care abour our laws has not tried to become legal, and now he will get away with all the laws he has broke and injury to others! I KNOW that if we illegally went to Mexico and did the same thing he did here WE WOULD BE PROSECUTED FIRST then shipped out after our time was done. SHAME ON I.C.E HE DID THE CRIME *** MAKE HIM SERVE THE TIME **** then I.C.E can ship him out !!!

Good morning, did you see todays paper? He was denied bond!!!!! YIPPEEE!
He had also been working for the city of calhoun.I wonder what poor unsuspecting American's identity he stole to work that job?I hope the city of Calhoun did not hire him knowing he was illegal, if they did, they should be punnished for aiding and abeting a crimal.

EXCERPT:When Boyett asked Sparks who the landscaper is, and the question was translated to Patino-Monroy, Sparks replied that the employer is the city of Calhoun for the last 10 years.

Good Morning: I saw this and yes it makes me feel a little better, but I know that I.C.E. can still come in and deport him and he will not face the consequences of his crimes. As for Calhoun wow bout time 4 them to check and see how many other illegals they have working for them.
