As an employee of Dallastown Food Services I am greatly saddened by the decision of the school board. We love our jobs and we love the children we cook for. We take pride in our clean kitchens. I can only hope the new company has as much pride and knowledge as we do.
I hope they understand the needs of all the children. Besides free and reduced lunches that are needed, we have to loan money to students who cannot afford lunches. Will Chartwells do the same? We feel to properly educate, you must have a healthy breakfast and lunch. Do we now have to turn these children away without food? My heart cries for them.

Maybe we should cut the supers salary by 30 to 40% and see if he would want to stay. For all the cutbacks and money they are saving, my taxes haven't went down yet.

A great beginning. Good job Mr Weinberg.

Next up - facilities maintenance & groundskeeping.

Then administrators.

Then teachers.

Reduce the government employees to the minimum needed to manage and oversee government activities. Contract out all the "worker bee" jobs to the private sector. They can do the work more efficiently and much less overhead.

This is pathetic..these people are way underpayed as it is and here is Spendberg... Zeroing in on them...Most of these persons are probably secondary breadwinners in their families and will quit over this and find some other part time job...Dallastown will have to bring in all new contracted people with bad attitudes because they have to work a low paying dead end usually part time job thru a bogus contractor that offers next to no benefits....and these are the people that will be feeding our children???I would not want to be eating what they are cooking up there !!!

If you feel so strongly about it, then send your kid with a brown bag lunch. Get over it.

As usual, they go after the people making the least amount of money. Next they'll go after the custodians & office people. How come they never cut Administrators, you know the cronies of the Superintendent?

Here's a thought, how much money can be saved in York County if we consolidate ALL the school districts into 1?$1 million dollars would be nothing if that happened!! Of course that will never happen, this is York County & this is the way we always did it.

Cafeteria workers on average made $13 an hour how ridiculous and with benefits??? those people only re-heat food. Is that really a cook??? From what I understand and have heard the new company actually "cooks" which sounds like a more healthier and better option for the students and it saves money
the district and the students will be better off with higher quality of food rough times all around

I agree with Mr. Geesey's comments. You do not deserve to have your salary reduced by almost 50% and still expect to provide for your family. We all need to thank Governor Corbett for slashing education funding by almost one-billion dollars. His budget is an attack on the working middle class like Mr. Geesey. Instead, Gov. Corbett would rather see his natural gas company buddies reap millions without being taxed, while good middle class jobs are disappearing. The middle class needs to wake up and realize that the Republicans are only for the rich! Maybe taxing the natural gas companies could help offset property taxes! Ever think of that Gov. Corbett? Most other natural gas production states tax their drilling companies. But not in Pennsylvania! Now, if Mr. Geesey has children, he will probably qualify for food stamps and possibly medicaid. Maybe the food service workers in Dallastown would have agreed to concessions to keep their barely decent wages. Instead, they now have to live with making 50% less. For everyone who complains about these people making too much money, I challenge you to volunteer to cut your wages by 50% and see if you can manage it. Walk in their shoes before you cast judgement! Sure, Chartwells can feed school children for less! Why? Because they pay their employees crap wages and probably serve not as nutritous food to our students! At least Mr. Geesey, after a life of working hard, can look forward to a healthy retirement and assurance that his health needs will be met. Wait a minute, the Republicans want to take away Medicare! Well, if he can't look forward to that, maybe he can save enough to put his kids through college so they will have a better life than his. Wait a minute, the Republicans want to take away Pell Grants for children whose parents can't totaly afford college! As we celebrate Easter, think of those less fortunate, like Mr. Geesey!

I really don't understand the comments. We live in a time when one political party gives the drumbeat that anyone or anything associated with government must be cut and when it happens, people of that party complain. The Republicans are amajority in York County. In this state and county, the Republicans are in charge, get used to it. Remember Wisconsin? It could and WILL happen to you or someone in your family. Rally around the Republican Party!!!!!!!!!!

Not to mention that so many of the Dtown staff is ServSafe trained. ServSafe is an extensive course required by the state, all establishments seving food are required to have someone trained on staff usually the manager and assistant. Dtown has gone, again, beyond the call of duty and had regular workers trained as well. I'd say they were "Dedicated to Excellence" Dallastown may so have to change it's moto. How about "Anything for a Buck"

"It's really a no-brainer", says Screwey Stewie Spendberg.

Which raises the obvious question: If it was a no-brainer, why didn't you do it years ago, instead of continually raising our taxes?

One more desperation effort to save his job, and those of his fellow spendthrifts on the DASD Board.

DUH!! They won't be going down! The cost cutting is to keep them
from going up. Going down, you got to be kidding, right.

Another dipstick who begrudges a common person making a good wage.
Higher quality food for a million dollars less? Maybe junk food fancied
up with herbs and spices.

13.08 to work in a school cafeteria? Maybe they should consider outsourcing maintenance too.

As long as the teachers get a nice raise. This will help the school district afford to bump them higher than the 80k a year adverage they currently make.

What a shame that you haven,t been educated enough to realize that your being brainwashed . Republicans are nothing more than a disease on the middle class. The values they preach unfortunately are not the ones they adhere to .Their nothing more than a well dressed wiseguy.Democratic politicos are usually to set in fixing all of societies ills that they themselves become ineffective.Basically it comes down to that where all screwed no matter who's in charge

If the food was good half the time that will be an improvement.
