A law degree doesnt make you a better person, perhaps for a law firm, but when it comes to 'working for those who voted for you' its about character and getting things done. Obama has a law degree...what good did that do America so far?

The position of District Judge isn't about character, it's about the law. That's what voters obviously don't realize. When you go before a Judge they should know the law and the specifics of the law. That is the problem with this position being in the hands of those that do not have an education in the law. Unfortunately, this will not change until the voters wake up and realize decisions are being made by those with little education on the law itself and they (the voters) finally put their foot down.

If ordinary people can't hold this kind of office, then why even bother to vote them in. If an ordinary person can't learn about the law and effectively carry out said duty, then why have the law to begin with. There is a point of diminshing return for every aspect of life and we are now at that point in Law, which to continue to "Put Their Feet down" is only going to make things worse.

This position is called the "Minor Judiciary Court" for a reason. It was created in the 1300's, was called "Justice of the Peace" and today mainly hears traffic violations, small claims, landlord/tenant issues, etc. It does not require a law degree, but it does require training and the passing of an intense three hour test by ANYONE other than an attorney. I think it's awful arrogant and condescending to think that one has to have a law degree for this office and this comment supports an elitist mentality. You're probably an attorney who ran for and didn't get elected into the position. Welcome to our Democratic system.
