We can believe either Mr. Miller or Stanford University. The university's study of PA charter schools, released earlier this week, concluded that students in cyber charters performed significantly worse than regular public schools in terms of student achievement. I believe Stanford.

Having the state pay for the schools they charter should be a no-brainer. At the very least, it will save local taxpayers statewide tens of millions in property taxes now spent on these lower-quality schools. But nothing should happen administratively -- least of all giving control to an ideologically driven state government -- until each cyber charter is thoroughly investigated by an independent agency, like the Auditor General, and independently evaluated for whether to keep its charter.

Here's a crazy idea; why not fund cyber schools like any other private school. If parents want to have their child get their education through a cyber school, let them pay the bill.

'BOG' this has been going on for decades. Just a cover-up, back door move, for private religious school students to receive vouchers. Also years ago, it was determined that if public schools receive certain equipment from the state, private schools must also receive the same equipment/teaching aids. So THEY approve cyber/charter schools, with complete state financing, bingo, private religious schools must receive in kind. Hey, they be dumb as a frickin' fox. Been there, watched it for DECADES! If there is a will, there is a way! Remember, you heard it from me first.
