This article mentions a Hydrangea Festival. Is that here in Douglasville somewhere? What is it?

It's held every year in June...I think the county was hoping it would become a huge festival that would bring people from all over the country but it's held at the courthouse every year...I think if the county held it at Clinton Nature Preserve, or a larger park, it would be a larger festival. The "entertainment" is school and church groups, which doesn't draw a huge crowd. The festival consists of arts and crafts booths and nurseries that sell hydrangea plants, but a large chunk are businesses and people paid to promote the latest sports drink. There are a limited number of food vendors there--last year I think there were 2-3, all fast food. I would think restaurants such as Gumbeaux's might participate to promote their restaurant, but they don't. They have a flower show as well.

A better festival is Villa Rica's Bluegrass Springfest in late April. In the past they've had nationally known bluegrass bands like Mountain Heart play there. There are activities for the kids to do, plenty of food vendors, arts and crafts, two days of live bluegrass music. Look at villaricaparks . com and you'll find their events calendar. They have exercise classes for all ages, karate, yoga, beginning dance classes, and next month they'll have a daddy daughter dance and a mother son dance.

Hydrangea Festival is actually a little sad; I am not sure how many people would come out if it wasn't for the parents having to bring the kids to performm there probably wouldn't be many people there. Carroll County does a nice job with festivals if you are looking for some locally.

We would have a better turn out if it were more family friendly. Some events DO NOT involve children and can be expensive.

I have said it before and I will say it again...this is festival for the politically connected in Dougasville. They have a huge "ball" where they can dine on expensive food at our expense, and can tell each other what a great job each other is doing. This festival is a farce and just feed the ego of the person who puts it together. A TOTAL waste of our tax payer money! There is a reason the city backed off from putting our money into it, now the county will sponsor this?

should have it at the new jail city. This way the peasants who will pay for it thru DUI and no tag can get a first hand look at their sleeping quarters when douglasvilles finest pulls them over for drinking and driving.Take a look at what your TAX DOLLARS are building.Something to house the SCUM and WORTHLESS PIECES OF SH^* that live here.Especially the new influx of clayton county tags. There is nothing left to steal in clayton county, so the wharf rats have to move to new looting grounds
