The charge in this case was reduced to involuntary manslaughter.
The victim was shot square in the head at close range for no reason.
Thinking back over sentences handed-down recently in homicides in White County leaves me puzzled and angry.
In 2006 a boy at a camp for troubled youth was essentially smothered by three State employees - his counselors. Initially, homicide charges were filed, but after much legal/political/family pressures were brought the case was dropped.
In January '08 an unarmed drunk attacked an armed drunk in the parking lot of a bar and was killed. At trial the killer's public defender managed to get him a life sentence.
Two months later a VERY similar homicide occured and the killer got a six year sentence by plea bargain.
In July'08 an estranged husband killed his wife in a clearly premeditated way and his public defender managed to get him a life sentence. Also in July GBI agents killed a robbery suspect who pointed a toy gun at them and no punitive or corrective measures were taken.
In Nov.'08 a man and woman kidnapped, robbed, beat, and crushed a 'good samaritan' to death with his own vehicle. The man got a life sentence. His parner got-off easy.
In Sept '08 a wife shot her husband in an argument and got-off light.
WTF?

WTF?
In the 2006 case the 185 pound child was not smothered. He was held down by counselors in some state "approved" method until he agreed to calm down and stop being a threat to himself or others. State examiner found that something built up in his blood stream that killed him, that's why the case got dropped.
The guy who killed his wife was found guilty by a jury of a crime other than straight murder, and that's why he got his sentence.
I think the Helen stabbing guy was a jury trial, too.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE OTHER TRIALS, A FATHER, HUSBAND, AND SON WAS CLEARLY SHOT POINT BLANK, AND THE ONLY REASON THIS JASON CARR GUY HASN'T BEEN SENTENCED TO ANY KIND OF PUNISHMENT IS B/C HIS DAD IS SOME KIND OF POLICE UP THERE. IT'S TOTAL BULL, JUSTICE IS NEVER REALLY ACHIEVED ANY WAY YOU LOOK AT IT.

Niki....don't talk shit til you know the truth....Jason is one of the kindest, most caring people anyone could ever meet....I've known him for 9 years, he has and never would point a gun at anyone drunk or not....I trust him with my life and with my 2 childrens lives....Jason is well respected and any and everyone that knows him knows that he is not capable of this in any way, form or fashion!!!!

Let me tell you something Jennifer B, the person you are describing did shoot my son point blank in the head and has had no remorse about it. If you would trust this person with your kids then maybe you should have your parental rights questioned. My 2 year old granddaughter doesn't have her dad anymore because of Jason Carr's senseless actions. Cory was only 24 and Jason is 35. Alcohol or not he knew better than to point a gun at anyone. He should be on trial for MURDER not Manslaughter and he should be sentenced to Prison. But even if he's not KARMA will come back around and he's the one that has to face GOD one day. Thank You Nikki for seeing the truth in this case. I didn't know that his dad was a cop. Explains alot about the Justice System in Georgia. I have been a law enforcement officer in Florida since 1990 and it doesn't matter. The Law is the Law no matter where you work or where you live. There is more to this story and people that were there are covering up what really happened and being cowards. KARMA will come back to them as well.

Kristen Carr I'm very sorry that you have to go through this but at least you get to see your dad. My little Granddaughter Brookie can't never get to see her dad. She has to listen to his music and the stories about him. I don't blame you for taking up for your dad but he committed a senseless crime and will have to answer to GOD one day for what he did. It was no accident. I don't care if he was drinking or not you don't aim a gun at anyone whether its loaded or not. Always handle a gun as if its loaded no matter what and never point it at anyone. I'm Cory Buck's mother and Brooklyn Buck's Grandmother so yes I'm upset. Your dad took my baby away from me.

I see all of your comments from both sides, but honestly I dont understand why Jason had the gun @ the party with drinking he is well old enough to know better! And the family members that are on here talking about Jason is serving his time, he hasnt recieved any time really a few years locked up and probation what the hell is that, my brother is dead because of a stupid decision Jason made!My neice has to go without a father her whole life. Yall still get to see your dad, brother, son. Its not fair and my brother nor my family didnt deserve this..Cory was a great father, brother, son And always will be truly missed..RIP Cory your sister loves you..xoxo
