He should not have robbed the bank in the first place and had a gun ,can you imagine if we had no law enforcement how it would be? everyone is so quick to blame the law enforcement what about the ones that do the crime they are always the "victims" ??????

He had a gun in his hand - how was anyone to know it was fake? This man was crossing the river where several visitors to the area (me, my kids and my dad included) were tubing down that river within minutes of the incident. I am glad the officers took action against someone waving a gun instead of waiting to see how many innocent bystanders could have been injured or killed! The officers weren't shooting to retrieve the money, they were protecting my life and that of my family.

If you have a gun in your hand, and aim it at someone, they have the RIGHT to take your life to preserve their own. Not just law enforcement, but any CITIZEN of this REPUBLIC.

it was not a heinous act, the law enforcement did not know the gun was a toy. The man was in Helen for crying out loud waving a gun, do you think they were shooting for money, umm no they were shooting because many visitors could have been shot. Police officers are trained to protect the public and the man with the gun could have possibly harmed the public, why wait for him to shoot one INNOCENT person. If this man would have never robbed the bank then they wouldnt have even been looking for him. Piece of advice NEVER WAVE A GUN AT A POLICE OFFICER BE IT FAKE OR REAL, THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO TAKE YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU PUT OTHERS IN HARMS WAY!!!

I hope you're never a victim of a crime. We'll all answer to GOD for what we have done and for what we have failed to do. Having said that...Every person has the right to protect his or her life. Yes, that means police officers too.

I think that Ray's life fell to pieces after his wife died. That's not to excuse what he did, but sometimes the tragedies encountered by people in this world can drive even good people over the edge. I only knew him from some business dealings, but he and Mary were very fair, equitable and kind to me.

I would not hesitate to shoot if someone were waving a gun around my family and I could get to my weapon to protect them.

On the other hand, GBI agents will draw and point their weapons at unarmed citizens with no provocation at all, and when they work with local cops that attitude tends to rub off on them. I know this from personal experience.

Ray was an upstanding citizen most of his life. He was not the criminal type. HE would have given you the shirt off his back. He disappeared a few months back and his car lot went up for sell, then next thing we knew, this was happening. I only say that, to say this, he had to have been terrified at what he was about to do. He probably evaluated his options until he thought he had no other. I do not defend what he did. I do not approve of it. But I do know that if he could be pushed into a moment of madness, any one of us could be. THAT is the most terrifying fact out there.

i agree that some of law enforcement do take it a little to far in a lot of cases with the gungho mentality and there are some who do their job with a clear head.
