On the third weekend of October each year, over 200,000 people visit the small quaint square of Dahlonega, Georgia to participate in the Gold Rush Days Fall Festival.

What happened to the Gold Rush Days festival that acually was fun to go to? Now when you go, the booths are generic and lack any sort of REAL craftsman. Too much retail and commercial items. And also the commities have made the cost so expensive for a booth, no one can afford one. No more boiled peanuts (the good ones), fried pork skins,pralines,free samples, fried apple pies.........All gone due to the bottom line once again. Sigh...

The money that is generated by this festival is used to help needy families in the area. Increased booth prices help by more gifts for the less fortunate. If people in the community would help put on the festival it would go better. It is my understanding there are only 10 people who coordinate this entire thing. Stop complaining and do something to help!

Is there any financial report given to the city in return for closing city streets, etc.? What percentage of the revenue goes toward needy families?

oh really on the needy families? I've lived in this area all my life and that's a new one to me.I've always herd the Jaycees have a drunk fest with most of the money raised. I don't know if so,i've just herd.
