That is good news. It will be a very visible location. It will also put the department closer to Riverwood Apartments which most of us know about the problems there.

Cost $2500 per month x 12 =$30,000 a year for five years. Plus the cost of the move and monthly utilities. I think this is a costly expense in these economically tough times with our town's budget already in the red before we even start our year.

Responsible spending should be our goal....is this it? I don't know. Just like the $25,000 spent for the trailer which sits at the end of the Town Pier as the Tourist building. A new trailer could have been purchased for that amount of money and raised up off the ground so it will not have the inherent problems that this one has, set up on a brick foundation. Originally only $14,00 was approved, but it grew to nearly double with additional add-ons.

When thinking about the costs of the move, don't forget to add in any costs that would be associated with remolding the space to make it an approved police station.

That alone amount could be very high, especially if it is only a temporary fix and the real location is going to be in the old public works building.

The interior changes are being performed by the owner at his expense, the police station on Irving does not hold prisoners, they are taken up the road. A Generator is also being provided by the landlord as well.

Next?

I am glad that someone is working with a plan and thinking these costs out ahead of time rather than gettting sticker shock after the fact.

Another question that I would have is the phone system and the cost to install the system up to the specifications that would be required by the police station. It was quite costly to provide the lines to the back of the town center for the emergency operations center...

Who is going to pick up the cost to transfer the communications to the new location.

Looks like the "remolding" won't cost that much afterall.

We are getting a grant to update the 911 system, and they will also be able to dial us in an emergency.
You people need to lighten up. The place they are in now is a hazard to their health. We are lucky if they dont sue us for "Black Lung". How would you like to breath mold and mildew all day long.
The health department should have shut it down long ago.
My only problem with the new space is parking.
It would have been so much better if tey had taken Rankins old space in the shopping center.
Lots of parking.
Are we going to have a holding cage.

Dont hold your breath, they already know about Horton St. and do nothing. Drugs are the one thing they are scared to death of. Unless the State or Westmoreland sheriff get involved, nothing will be done.
Drug dealers ane in much better physical shape than our police. They can outrun, outshoot and outwit our finest.

At one meeting when they were talking about moving to upstairs a BB&T the Police Department said it would cost about $40,000.00 to move the communication equipment, but doesn't seem that it has been addressed yet. Seems they can find money when they want to do something. Take the Information Center upgrades, salary increases giving, 911 updates, etc, etc. Then they let Public Works run short employees, talk about such a hard road and need for tax increases. Probably could understand if they had a priority list but this seem to be grease the squeeky wheel with no real goal in mind.
