As a long time resident of Cynthiana, I would just like to say something about a serious problem people face day to day in our community, DEADBEAT PROPERTY OWNERS.

Buying rental property has been a big craze for some time. But, the problem is that instead of becoming respectable landlords, the buyers become "slumlords".

They snatch up every foreclosure they can find and fix whatever will make them "look good" and then let the property fall in around the tenants. I need not mention names but I am sure if they read this they know exactly who they are.

Cynthiana is a town full of drug pushing and many of those types are living in apartment complexes next to good people. That issue is one thing, but the worst of it is over the property neglect just to make a buck.

I used to rent for years and finally got sick of moving from one bad landlord to the next. I've lived on all sides of town and in the country and EVERY single owner beat around the bush when getting asked to maintain the property. But you can bet when rent time came around, they were knocking on your door no matter what. I personally know a family that lived in an upstairs apartment with a deck. The deck was rotted and getting ready to fall in anytime. Everyone was concerned, except the landlord. He wanted to paint over the problem. The porch busted loose form the building while one of the tenants was cooking out. There were children there. Thank God no one got hurt. But it costed them to find another home.

Landlords have become the shame of the city due to the complete lack of laws that protect the tenants. There is no Landlord Tenant Act. All the surrounding counties have laws in place except Harrison County. This issue has been brought up before but has been ignored by Wells and Brown for years. Nothing that should get done ever does. They are more concerned with making the town more attractive for tourists instead of helping the home folk who already live here. My personal opinion is that it's because of being a Republican town. Republicans don't like change and they are pretty smug in their chairs, content with what they have and to hell with everyone else. I don't believe this way of thinking makes a community.

The big shame is that we still have what people refer to as "N***** town", down in the water street area. It's a disgrace that area is still being neglected to let criminals run wild. The police are fearful of gang types and just plain act questionable in terms of their lack of enforcement of the law. Kids are standing in public smoking yet it is illegal to do so. That's a hypocrisy of the law. You cannot expect to enforce some of the law but not all. That's not a community.

If the law was enforced and the secret meetings with the mayor came to an end, people would be more in control of Cynthiana and then could run out all the trash and take care of those who are willing to help themselves have a better life.

I hear you. I've been trying to get a decent job in this community for years. I've applied for the school system as well as many other jobs and someone else always gets picked. I'm well qualified and have years of experience but I know they hire from the inside which is exactly the opposite of equal opportunity employment.

you should be in the landowners shoes and see what distruction a tenent can do to your property then you would see why that they just fix it up and make sure the electric works and water comes on.

If a landlord has good intentions, he/she will have a set of documented guidelines to use for weeding out trailer trash. Just look around at other communities and their laws. Harrison County is pretty much still living in the past.

A good landlord will use his/her brain to pick out a good tenant. And will also have a certain routine inspection to protect his interests. A good tenant will care enough to have their own set of guidelines. But the fact is that in a community that lacks leadership and employment, many people stay desperate. They get kicked out of one place and will say or do anything to rent another. But if they can't meet the requirements, then maybe they will just get pushed out of town.

There is no excuse. More and more people in this town are becoming bums on drugs. I wouldnt send any of my kids to our school because drugs are at an all time high here. And Bruce Hampton was in the middle of it when I was in school. He probably still is supplying the kids. This is a small town and we all know what goes on here.

Get rid of Jim Brown and all those crooked rejects and watch Cynthiana improve.

Towns that have no jobs have officials who deal in drugs. LOGIC.

I'll give you this one WAKE UP. WE do have a some deadbeat landlords in town that know the our legal system and they are never going to do anything to improve their rental property because they don't have to because they have plenty of tenants that will pay for their slums and the courts will never do anything to make them change. They are getting rich off of being slum lords because they are good ole boys!!!!! Like I have been telling you, get with the system!!!!!!!

Since everyone wants to either be polite or politically correct, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Travis Franklin, and I don't give a damn anymore. You people try to be polite, or politically correct. Screw that. Here, I'll show you how to do this the right way: Barry Dean Turner. Anna Mae Brooks. Anna Mae Ishmael. Randy Northcutt. They are all a bunch of LOSERS. Douch-bag, panty-waste LOSERS. They pay off the inspectors and polititians in this town to do as they please. I lived in one of Barry Turners "homes", and the damn thing was falling off the foundation, had no insulation or heat whatsoever, had a breaker box that tripped if you ran more than one electrical appliance at a time, had a backed up septic system, and only had THREE OUT OF THIRTEEN outlets that actually worked. We had to run extension cords all through the house to have lights or television! The fact is that this house would be condemed and torn down if a genuine housing inspector looked at it for more that two seconds. Some of you will say, "if you weren't happy there you should have moved." Well, smartass, we would have, that is, if there was even one decent job available in this town. If people here want to do something about these problems, then you have to get off your asses, stop crying and start protesting! Soldiers die protecting your rights every day. GO OUT AND USE THEM! PICKETT AND PEACFULLY PROTEST OUR "LEADERS" TUESDAY AT THE ELECTION POLLS!!! And don't stop there! Keep on telling them how you feel in the local paper, on their office messaging system, or pickett their ass at their offices. IT IS YOUR GOD-GIVEN AMERICAN RIGHT TO DO SO!!! TAKE THE POWER BACK!!!!!!!

I AGREE WITH YOU THE CORRUPTION RUNS DEEP AND PLEASE REPLY TO THIS FOOL AND HYPOCRITE berryman AND THE OTHERS THAT YOU ARE AGAINST THE ENTIRE SYSTEM AND THE WAY THEY HAVE KEPT US 50 YEARS BEHIND AND ARE SLUM LORDS BECAUSE THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH JOBS IN THIS TOWN AND THEY PREY ON THAT LIKE VULTURES. aND I AGREE ONE OF MY FAMILY MEMBERS LIVED IN AN ISHMALE PROPRTY AND THEY DONT GIVE A CRAP EXCEPT GETING THAT RENT CHECK.LOOK AT THE NORTHCUT SLUMS ANY INSPECTOR BEEN THERE AND SEEN HOW THEY MAIMTAIN THEM.
BUT IT RUNS DEEPER AND FARTHER THAN JUST THE ONES YOU NAMED.
beeryman MAKES AND OUT RIGHT BOLD STATMENT AND SAYS WE OWN THE COURT AND THE SLUMLOARDS WILL CINTINUE BSCAUSE NOONE WILL STOP THEM. AND NOW HE WANTS TO JUMP ON YOUR BAND WAGON AND SAY IT HAS TO DO WITH KUSTER AMD NEWBERRY RACE.
THE BEST THING WE CAN DO IS TO VOTE AND GET RID OF THE OLE BOYS, berryman JUMPS ON YOUR WAGON AND SAYS YES TO THE BOYCOTT BECAUSE IF WE DONT VOTE THEN ALL THE PEOPLE STAY THE SAME UNTIL NOVEMBER AND HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF WINNING.
ON THAT PART I WILL HAVE TO DISAGREE ABOUT NOT VOTING THAT IS THE BEST WAY TO PROTEST. TUESDAYSB ELECTION IS JUST THE PRIMARY TO SEE WHO GOES ON TO NOVEMBER IN THE GENERAL RACE IF IM NOT MISTAKEN, IS THAT NOT HOW IS DONE EVERY ELECTION YEAR OR AM I OFF!
I MEAN WE HAVE A PRIMARY THEN WE HAVE GENERALAND THATS THE ONE THAT IS THE FINAL RACE. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG.
