The only thing I don't understand is how both sides of the issue are so narrow-minded and juvenile. It seems that if their were to have been any progress it would have more than likely come out of compromise of both the police department and the sheriff's office.

As far as the name calling and childish threats, I would hope that sane adults would not resort to such measures. A true professional would handle them selves with dignity and integrity and not stoop to the level of his detractors. I had put in for the position of Chief of Police, but I am thankful now that through God's good grace I didnít get the position and that I don't have to deal with such attitudes as those coming from throughout your small community.

You have around 1,500 people living an area approximately 45 square mile (this does not include the portion of the county controlled by the Fort Benning Military Reservation. What amazes me is that you cannot see that change is inevitable and that what was happening was something that has happened in most progressive and successful counties in this state. But I know that most people are afraid of change and that also explains why the sheriff has been in power for so long.

Given his budget the sheriff could provide three to four deputy coverage at all times for the county if some priorities and egos were changed. I just hope that there will be presence of mind within the new government to realize that things can be done different than they were ten, twenty or even thirty years ago. Fresh minds and ideas are what made this country and state great, but it because of the attitudes like those of some of your residents that enable areas to stagnate then wither and eventually fade away.

It is a sad situation and I can not perceive how this Sheriff has so much power and so many connections from the Governors office to the judicial system to the people that he controls in this county. The point about change is here is true and the people in this county will falter and fade into a stagnate pool of puss. This is what they want. If you do not live in this county one could not grasp the magnitude of fear and false promise that comes out of the SD. In the coming year or two you will see this county chase of developers, investors, educators and any hope for the future generations in this county.
The commission is made up now by the owner of the only grocery store and hardware store in the county, he has a monopoly. Why would he want growth? Next is the puppet who will vote any way the grocer or Sheriff tell him to. He is absent more than any other Commissioner at monthly and special meetings. Then there is our new member who used to run the Public Works and worked in the Water Department. In the Water Department he was supposed to maintain a waste water pond behind the laundry service, he did so poorly that EPA almost crushed this county and thousands of dollars and countless man hours were wasted to fix his mess. There is one member that was just elected that I do not know. The last member is our only hope, good luck Walt I hope you can make a difference with your fellow commissioners.
The Police Department never had a chance because of the power held by the Sheriff and the commission to be. Anyone want to buy a house?

As a matter of fact, yes. I have two sons and a daughter and their families that want to move here; one of them is ready to buy, now, and I have the authority to purchase for him. Contact me with the details, please; we're going to found a new dynasty.

Well All is over now. The New County Commissioners will withdraw their appeal. Now we have some good County Commissioners, whom I believe will run this county as it should be done and not hide things from the citizens of our community.

Congratulations Wade for being appointed our County Commission Chairman.
