I appreciate this mothers anguish, however....Iraq will be the new "excuse" for all horrible acts from now on, just as VN was the prior cause. Some are valid, most are not. If a returning Vet shows signs of strange behavior, get him or her to a mental health facility, don't sit around and wait for something to happen to them or an innocent victim. There are agencies actively looking for Vets to help.

From the sounds of this comment and others from you, you could use a good old-fashioned beatdown yourself...and a grammar book...and some social skills... I would continue, but I think we're limited to 4,000 characters... |

At least this woman has some class. We all know that is a rare thing in today's world.

As a mother myself, I can ONLY imagine what this poor mama is going through. God bless her for speaking out.

So it's all Bush's fault. Bush invaded a country that was no threat to us. Bush had her son sent over there to kill people. Bush had him brought home to continue killing people. Bush Bush Bush. It's always all about Bush. Bush has turned this country into a land of killers with no respect for anyone's rights. Bush has trampled and torn and thrown away the Constitution.

I really think there is something else to this story. First of all, why was he discharged from the army. Was it because of psychological reasons and he never told his mother???? It's been 16 months since he's been in Irag, they woule have sent him back by now. Kudos to the mother. And May God bless the young lady's family with peace and comfort.

I guess this will be another case of blaming this crime on serving in Iraq
bull ....probably didn't have a father growing up either. |

I think it was very difficult for the mother to even try to apologize for her son. She is very courageous.

When you return from a war zone, how hard is going to be to get into civilian mode? How fast can you switch? You were over there killing people, that's what you were trained to do. Now you are here. It's certainly not like a light switch.

Oh my could this be a hate crime or is there such a thing in a case like this?

|
First why is the mother saying she is sorry for what her son did? He is not baby. Now the big thing I put my time in the Military and served in combat and I do not go out and kill people. We need to stop blaming the war in Iraq for what these people are duing. They may have some problems and I understand that more than most will know, but this girl was not the enemy she was a collage student. He has not excuse.

My prayers to BOTH families. What is wrong with you people? Someone has lost their child to death, the other to an awful crime. Either way, what a loss for them all. Too many people are too quick to condemn.

OK, let's blame something else on the war. Granted there is not an easy way to deprogram from high alert for some period of time in a kill or be killed mode; to normal civilian life. I know his mother is trying to put together the pieces of the family and is trying to express her sadness to the victim's family. I know both mothers are dealing with tragedy.
How long has this guy been back? Why was help not given to this guy? It would have been less publicity if this was not at the same time as the events in Chapel Hill. |

Educate us EDWARD... no, educate me... I'am not speaking for the rest.. but please educate me to "I understand that more than most will"...please. |
I agree, this lady is letting the grieving family know just how terrible she feels about their daughter. I respect her for doing this. |

This is just awful what this guy did. I can't say that's what caused this because of him being in Iraq.

Trust me it's not that easy to switch back to civillian mode. Even after leaving boot camp it takes about a month, I can only speak for the Marine corps. |

Understood, but that does not give you the right to rob or kill others. |
