It took 13 times for this to happen? What a crock... this should have happened after the SECOND time. First time might be a mistake, and everyone should be entitled to a second chance. The second one-- by that time, there is no mistake that it wasn't a mistake. As the Joker would say, "why so lenient?"

Admiting to having 'a couple of beers'. Isn't this the standard answer to all drunk driving responses? Just once I wish someone would say they were doing shots all night... I bet the cops get really sick of the ol' couple beers answer .

Nota Sheep and Chuck Wagon, if it were all as simplistic as that. Obviously the woman is very sick, and probably won't get the help she needs until she's incarcerated. That's the real shame IMHO!

Right, she should get a break. She needs our help, not prison. We have to learn to be a more touchy feely society. We should tear down all prisons, and build all treatment centers instead. We have to learn to understand the bad childhood these unfortunate souls were brought up in. They never got a break. I'm sure nobody wants to be a bad person, we have to find that inner child in them.

Prison may keep her from the public...but it is not the answer for this addict. Our government needs to get a clue, but with most lawmakers drunks themselves who would ever know what to do.

Another drunk off the road for a little while but not long enough because you know when she gets out she will be right back to drinking. Its a terrible disease and people just dont get the proper help to quit. Make her go to treatment and do probation to have to check in everyday for alcohol testing and that should wake her up hopefully. I pray that she does not ever get behind a wheel again so she can kill with her bad habit.

A criminal record will not change her need for treatment and will do nothing, but furhter stigmatize her recovery. Welcome to the American blind justice system.

I think she has a case to sue the booze makers. Add on the fact that the state collected a hefty tax from her ( booze tax ), now use that money and more to lock her away.

At least incarceration will keep her from killing someone. All the bleeding hearts that think she isn't a bad person, just sick, wake up. She is a bad person that abuses alcohol and choses not to seek the help that is available to everyone. I'm sure she found contempt for the court ordered diversion she had to attend. Now you can flog me for thinking you need to be responsible for your actions and that is ok, just as you liberals should be flogged for NOT wanting to be held liable for your actions.

Right wing nut jobs like yourself would do the country a service by setting yourselves on fire too, but then that would be so self destructive.....

13 DUI arrests and 12 convictions and this menace tp public safety was still walking the streets and illegally driving after the 12th conviction. Both Minnesota and Wisconsin have to stop treating drunks with kid gloves. That, however, in unlikely given the number of alcoholics and ex-alcoholics in the respective legislatures who ignore the carnage on the road under the mistaken premise that alcoholism is a disease. Driving drunk is not a disease, it's a crime equatable to attempted homicide that deserves hard time on the first offense.

And you can't tell me that there has been no offer of help to this loser. She chooses not to take advantage of it. She IS going to kill someone someday.

putting people in jail for an addiction - that is stupid government - again if she got caught 13 times then how many times did she drive w/o an accident? sober people crash also - basically, the system makes no sense because it prevents very little and punishes people with a problem (not people who are intending to hirt someone).

What's with the false choices being written here, the folks who accept those false choices thoughtlessly, and those posters who put a political spin on this story? Let's clarify this: (1) The woman broke the law repeatedly and needs to be punished for it; AND (2) The woman cannot be trusted to drive a vehicle and must be prevented from doing so; AND (3) The woman is sick and needs help to control her addiction; AND (4) Treatment for addiction is not always successful, so the woman must be monitored. If treatment works in her case, then good for her. But if it doesn't and she drives drunk again, then more severe punishment is in order. Those such as The Golf Guy and others who insist any of these four points are mutually exclusive are not using their critical thinking capacities.
