We had some light flurries here in Athens, but I doubt it could accumulate with the wind.

As far as white county goes, Helen Georgia got about 1/2 inch of snow that quickly turned to a sheet of ice. The Road ways here are very slick and unsafe for travel.

my question is why aren't the fine state and county boys out salting and scraping the roads? I've been listening to the scanner and there are wrecks everywhere. The state and county road departments KNEW that we were possibly getting snow and look...we did and of course nobody is out there taking care of the roads. I guess it is just fend for yourself. I hope you have a good body shop and good car insurance for when you wreck. If it really pisses you off, you could always send the bill to the state with a nice little "thank you" card. I know that I would.

Salting and scraping the roads?

They were snow flurries... and in some areas, yes it turned to ice...

If you choose to drive in snow, then you are choosing to drive in adverse conditions. If you choose to drive in ice, then you are just plain dumb.

This state has little to no 'salt reserves' and they chose to keep them for any truly adverse conditions, not something that will melt off as soon as the sun hits it.

I am pretty sure that if you contacted your local road department, and offered to pony up enough money to purchase additional salt/cinder and fund the additional labor costs, they would be more than happy to oblige... but they are on a budget, and, unfortunate as it may be, have to make decisions based on the effects to that budget.
