In the mid-90s, Rodney made a CD with Curb Records, which was scrapped before release. An amazing man with an amazing voice, Rodney has taken care of his step-daughters since they were young, helping his wife raise them, and then they had their son together. A well-trusted family, Rodney & Tammy's home was often the hang-out for kids in their neighborhood. I would know. I recall being a child of maybe 8, Rodney mowin the lawn and singin as he done so. All I can and will say, is I sure miss the Great Bludini Koolaid :[

I"ve never been privileged to know Rodney himself, but I was privileged enough to get acquainted with Tammy several years ago, and with Tammy's mom. What I can say about these two ladies is this...good quality folks, nice and pleasant, always with a smile even under less than ideal circumstances! Class acts, both of them!

My son used to love Great Bludini Koolaid!

:) I sure wish they still made the GBK, was the best flavor ever LOL!

Yes, I will agree to that. The entire family is wonderful. Both T & R did well for themselves and their family from the K-Mart & Heilig-Myers days to now... let us all be proud for them.

Kudos- Tam was and is one of my best friends; it is great to watch Rodney grow and be a success! Just proves all to me, as reading your wonderful comments do too...we grew up in a pretty cool place with some great folks and all of us had an opportunity to be whatever we wanted! I love to see posts like these instead of that garbage slinging...so many wonderful people live in harrogate, cumberland gap and powell valley...etc...

I am so proud for them-they really pulled their family together to help him accomplish his career; and they are a great example of how people can stumble, make mistakes and thru faith and dedication to each other remain close knit and repair damages; I can remember when he first dated tammy jo, and maggie and al took those babies in just as if they were his blood children; and having step kids myself, it can be a challenge to be a step parent, but they seem to have done a wonderful job; his sister Tammy is just a wonderful lady too, I feel blessed to have always had her as a friend.

I'll agree with that, coalminersdaugher, Rodney & Tammy Jo did to a GREAT job blending the family... and those girls turned out great because of that. Rodney was a great father figure for them, and even for the neighborhood kids & all the girls' friends growing up... if we had a question, or our bike chain locked up, or, just whatever - he was always there for everyone, as was Tammy Jo. I remember bein about 7 or 8, when he was working on his first album with Curb, and he had these songs that stuck in my head: Beam me up Scotty & Mayday Payday - but he scrapped that album and waited several years before making a successful album. They've blessed the lives of anyone who's ever gotten to know them :]

I love his music too' I heard he came from a GREAT
family up brining'My Question is 'How does someone with awesome talent leave this small town with no help from any?I know this awesome guy who I went to high school with'Chris Ellis he live with his granny after his mom and dad divorce'Chris was so TALENTED in the early days'even wrote awhole Cd while still in School' He had no help from his family nor his School(except from his Granny trying to raise him alone)I heard Chris has wrote 3 more Cds but cant get them copied' Chris also started LMU last year but because of no grands THEY KICK HIM OUT!! What a shame' one of our own with amazing talent cant get our support!! I heard he was living with his mom untill she kicked him out then she moved to New Orleans 'I remember Chris singing at the park in Harrogate back in the late 90's something Dr Day had going on'he was in his early teens' Dr Day loved him but because of the old ladies giving a plack away for" Who has the BEST FLOWERS in town' They said Chris was taking up their time and to rush it up!! What a wast of talent!! Why can't someone with money help him'maybe when he finally lives this run down town and makes something out of his self'We can replace that sign WELCOME TO the hometown of the fab LEE MAYARS hometown(not to remind all you'LEE HATES MIDDLESBORO)I know because my mom worked for his family there'Where is Chris Ellis now?

Well... thats weird... but... country music did say that our own nursery owner, David Ervin, was "too country for country music" - you tell me & we'll both know.

I happen to know for a fact that while I like Rodney and like hearing him sing, his step daughters father has footed the bill for his daughters, not Rodney! Trust me, I know what I am talking about! I like Tammy too, but she started hanging with Rodney long before her divorce from the girls Dad!

Um, I don't recall seeing anything that said that Rodney "footed the bill" for the girls, just that Rodney has taken care of them and helped Tammy with them. And yes, that is true, because I grew up around them ~ just a few houses down, actually, near Echo Valley. I promise you, he did anything and everything in his power for his family, and always has.

these comments are about our pride in watching a great friend rise to success;not Tammy Jos first husband; I am watching him on Good Morning america right now---as a divorced and remarried person, let me say, no one but them knows who did what, and there are 2 sides to every story..and i will leave it there because Rodney needs no defending; as mentioned above, no one said he footed the bill, but my kids have a great dad and step dad, and someone who walks in a GREAT stepdad's shoes, is equally to be respected because they "foot the bill" money and time wise.
The most important thing, whether he is a country music singer or not, they have a a family, including their biological dad that loves them-and lucky to have that opportunity. Fans of Chris Ellis...I watched Rodney for years and being a close friend of Tam's it amazed me how he struggled-it seems to make no sense and should be as simple as someone has talent, sounds great, better than a lot of big timers, and they should make a CD. BUT, I lived in Nashville after leaving home for about 5 years, and was lucky enough thru working as a marketing director for a company to get to work with radio stations, well known songwriters and some of the celebrities...OMG what a crazy, mad business!! Nashville is full of raw talent- I mean our company staff was full of people who were in Nashville to become songwriters and singers, that were awesome! and all of them struggled. Its almost like being in the right place at the right time-and having the tenacity to just keep going until that time comes. The Nashville Palace was beside us, and that is one of the places Randy Travis washed dishes; Jason Aldeen played there when I lived in Nashville, and no one knew him, now look at him. There are recording studios on every corner, and not the most reputable people recruiting talent. Mike Curb seems to have been great with Rod that I know of-but in between he worked with big promisers, no deliverers. It is an industry with some really great people, but some real sharks. Best wishes to your pal-everyone should get to have their dream come true!

Too-it has a lot to do with being marketable. If you watched Rodney this morning, much more confident person than when he started...he has improved so much in other areas and we all thought his singing should be it; anything you see on Kenny chesney career(and he is from outside maynardville if I am correct)generally goes over that too-that he had to rebuild his image to be unique and stand out. The companies invest a lot of money in people upfront and they have to pay the advertising, recording..etc bills most of the time until it takes off, so they have to look at the whole picture

When did Rodney move from Cumberland Gap? Just curious, and is his wife from there too? Does he ever come to visit Cumberland Gap?
