Maine teacher sorry for mock wedding to 4th grader

PORTLAND, Maine - A fourth-grade teacher in Falmouth, Maine , has apologized for playing the groom in a mock wedding to a student.

I am so sick of all this PROTECTING kids that has been taken wayy overboard. I know that sexual predators are no joke, but does that mean that any little thing an adult does to a child is suppose to mean something SEXUAL??? You play with a kid, or give him/her a kiss on the cheek and you should just lose your teaching job?? YOU pretend to play a freaking fake wedding and theres this whole frenzy about it to the point where its even on the news??? Parents and anyone else really need to get a freaking grip. Our future is looking real sad. Now teachers and anyone else are not going to want to help children because they have to watch their every move, and make sure nothing they do looks liek they want the little kid in a sexual way. You people are so disgusting--really

Schools had better be careful about the school plays they put on from now on or some parent will be up in arms. If what is printed in this story is correct, this is a teacher who indulged a little girl's fantasy and I think, most of us can remember a teacher that we thought we were in love with. Nothing ever came of the fantasy but seems today, we have to be totally honest with our kids, in other words, there is no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny, etc. Why can we not let our kids be kids!

I am a teacher and this story is so ridiculous. Wow...a teacher played a bit of pretend play with a student. The teacher allowed his students to use their imaginations and have fun. The horror! What would George Bush say? This doesn't fit in with NCLB! I can't believe that anyone is getting all upset about this. We, as a society, need to grow up and not get all upset about every little thing. This was a teacher having fun with his class. There was no kiss exchaged..what exactly is the issue here?

Thats the way its gotta be from now on. Parents and people in general are way to overprotective with their kids. You cant do anything nice with a kid without someone questioning you or thinking its strange. Some kids are very clingy, especially to teachers, and it hurts to not reciprocate the love back because then someone will question what you are doing. I don't know who is to balme really---the REAL pedophiles or the conservative society...

You have to be careful. We are now in a sue happy society and there are parents out there just waiting for the opportune time to attack and sue some innocent teacher for every red cent they have and will ever earn. The sad thing is the courts are allowing it and many people are settling out of fear. All it takes is an accusation that is a lie to find somebody guilty. You do not need any evidence. People are looking to nail anybody to the wall that they can.

Very true. Just like they did to Michael Jackson. Some parents are just so money hungry and evil that they will use their own children! Everyone believes what little kids say because they NEVER lie--this has to change. When a child accuses someone of something, they better investigate the children's parents first.

I can't believe these comments! Even a teacher defending another teacher's stupidity. The teacher obviously gave some serious thought in playing pretend with this girl and definitely went too far. Teachers are not class mates nor should they act like one. Children often idolize their teachers whether they be male or female. It is the responsibility of the teacher to act like an adult at all times and present themselves as a positive role model. Was this man a teacher that you want your little girls to play pretend with? As teachers we should be extremely careful of how we interact with our students and not take advantage of any child's imagination. The girl proposed to the teacher and the teacher took it too far. The teacher admitted he was wrong and any teacher with half a brain would have done the same.

No it's just that parents like you are really annoying and make people like me not even want to become teachers if we have to deal with whiny little parents like yourself. You need to grow up and get out more. The teacher was probably trying to be friendly, didn't think any of it. There was no physical interaction, so whats the problem? Whats going to happen to this poor little girl who fake married her teacher?? It's not fair for teachers to have to watch every little move they make because ignorant parents are going to take their simple acts of kindness and turn it into something ugly. Not everyone is pedophile, please get it through your head.
