Gas prices are always higher in the sylva-cullowhee area because of WCU. The service station owners know they can get away with it. Go down toward cherokee and gas is a little cheaper. Station owners know the students and teachers will pay the price. Heating oil prices are 2.60 for #1 oil and 2.00 for # 2 oil and oil prices were under thirty dollars a barrel thursday.

Oil prices hit a new low yesterday - part of a ten day slide and the gas prices go up anyhow. The worst gougers are Triangle Stops, Mr Petes, Kounty Line, and Biltmore.

What other local gas stations are rip offs?

I've never ever heard of one business being charged or convicted of price gouging. Have you?

There were a number of places, a $5,000 penalty. It was written up in citizen times, also there is this thing called Google that help you find this information.

Thanks Buck. I got to thinking about that and didn't think anyone had actually been charged in that last big gas price hike.

I never used to believe that there was some sort of massive conspiracy between the govt and the oil companies , but it is getting harder "not to believe that".

Oil is lower per barrel than it has been in years - many years. We "should" be paying about $1.30 to $1.50 per gallon at the pump , and yet , with lower oil prices , we find the price at the pump slowly rising.

The public is royally being ripped off .

I've submitted this idea/factoid to several news organizations, as it seems a rather easily verfiable story to follow . All one must do is "the math". In the post-election euphoria , no one seems to want to run with this, however.

Their is a simple way around the gougin law. All the stations join forces and raise the price together, or same time.

Dang it, I can't type today.

While 30-some stations were being investigated, 5 have been found guilty of price gouging to my knowledge. The AG's office will not comment on the other investigations. How long does it take to find out if a gas station jacked up the prices. It would appear to me that the AG's office is either a) very incompetent if it takes this long to subtract a couple of numbers or 2)embarassed that after calling a big press conference and announcing all of these charges, they weren't able to find any wrongdoing.

Someone should investigate the Attorney General's office for wasting taxpayers' money either way!

When oil goes up, we see it at the pump immediatly. When oil goes down, it takes weeks to months to see it at the pump.

I have no pity for anyone who gouges. The penelty should be the closing of the business.

Can we not blame it on Obama, Bush got beat up for years because the left said he was in bed with the oil companies. Stop filling up your tank, they will not run out.
