I believe the students. Alot of the people from my neck of the woods, Western North Carolina, were not raised to be racist we were all taught to treat everyone with respect.

There was a witness who saw the truck with the dead bear in it and gave a description to LE. There have been several bears killed and dumped in our area recently so I believe the story. I never believed this was racially or politically motivated and posted the link to a story concerning the way bears were being killed and dumped here. Sorry you would rather believe hate was the reason. I'll stick with the stupidity theory.
I agree with the stupidity theory too.

I have lived every single day of my life in WNC and I have seen more hate and racist acts to last me the rest of my life - coming from whites and blacks, both are guilty!

IF

If the signs on the bear had said "Bush, Palin, or McCain"
the same "outraged" liberals on this forum
would instead be praising the WCU students,
and would be demanding the rest of us
to respect their "free-speech" rights

The selective outrage of liberals is astounding

I have lived my entire life in Jackson County and while I have seen a few instances of racism it is certainly not the "norm" and I see a lot more directed toward hispanics than blacks.

Had this been a white bear (none native to these parts)with a McCain/Palin sign over its head, would we be having a discussion about race? I'm still very undecided in this election but after the responses to this incident I am leaning more toward McCain. I don't want to live in a country where every bad or stupid thing that happens is believed to be caused by hatred and/or race. This was a stupid prank. Nothing more, nothing less.

Oh come on-I seriously doubt this has anything to do with either campaign.
More than likely it is a college prank gone bad.
"Had nothing to do with either campaign"? Excuse me? What was the "college prank" supposed to be before it "went bad"? Just...putting the dead bear cub on the campus...for no reason? Do you seriously in your heart believe that the Obama signs were merely incidental? There is no way you can truly believe that. If you do, you are deeply in a denial from which there is no way out.

Your last sentence says it all. You have already made up your mind and closed it. You have dismissed any opposing view in advance so no meaningful discussion can ever happen.

It seems to me just like I read over and over in post by the self righteous Obama supporters that are eager to surrender our freedoms so they can feel better about their ethnic bias by electing a half black man to office. Never mind that his policies are going to destroy the American dream.

FYI pass it on to the Buncombe county Democrat party that although they are actively violating the law by signing up inelidgable people. I repeatedly had to call a poll worker to make those old blue hairs stay 50 feet away as they hen pecked voters in south Asheville. You should have seen the old bittys face when I tore the Dem voting list in two that she had forced into my hand and then threw it to the ground. I thought she was going to have a heart attack. Would have made for an interesting headline, Republican kills Obama volunteer at polling place. See the liberals will twist anything.

Yep-I seriously think this was just a prank and the signs are incidental. I also seriously think the students involved are wishing it had never happened.
Let's move on.

I am very disappointed in the jerks that did this. I am a proud republican that attends WCU and this looks very bad for both republicans and WCU students and I hope these guys get caught and taught a lesson.
