And now that our local hospital is going down the drain you might want to reconsider how wonderful this area is. All the nice folks(who can actually afford medical care) have siphoned themselves off to Asheville, Rutherfordton or to Morganton for the last few years. The majority of women who deliver their babies at The McDowell Hospital in Marion are the ones on Medicaid (ie the working folks pay for this) and the illegals - who also get free care. The truth is that our hospital has been serving the medicaid community. Other folks choose the nicer hospitals who cater to women and have higher grade services. When I was pregnant last year I found myself in the waiting room of a nice ob/gyn office in Marion with lots of filthy looking, smelly ( but probably good) folks. I felt out of place. Being my first pregnancy, I wanted a more special experience. What do others think about this? Is it important that our county have a top notch hospital?

My list of needs when choosing this area did not included healthcare. However I have had 2 occasions to use the local hospital (Haywood County Medical)once before the "scandal" and once after. Both occasions received exemplary service. Of course I am too affluent to require government intercession. Maybe that's the difference between your experience and mine. I did require a referral for an Orthopod but that's to be expected in these days of specialization. I applaude the fine men and women who continue to staff Haywood Medical and bid adieu to those who feel the need to jump ship. Not all the apples in the cart are rotten.

I say we announce a big mexican fiesta somehere out in the woods... when they all arrive we drop a bomb on them and wipe them all out.... just a suggestion... Ya know the more we use gas the higher the prices.... all them mexicans are driving cars... there has been explosion of mehos here in the past 5 years.. if they were gone there would be less road congestion... and garantee the fuel prices would drop. How come when an illegal gets pulled over the cops dont ask for a green card? and when they cant produce it lock em up til they can be deported? I know a house on state st that the one mexican living there brings illegals in and lets them live with him untill they get work and then they go out on their own.. its just sick how you can get in trouble for speeding but you dont get in trouble for being here illegaly.

whats so special about any small town that brings in money from tourists but doesn't want new forms of sustainable growth to keep its community from having to tax it's land owners more&more instead of expanding it's tax base thru good job creation
