If not a uniform at least a dress code. No pj's slippers, underwear showing, and at least knee length pants. They do not need to be business dressed just not bedtime sloppy,

Yes.
Uniforms helps everyone to focus on working.
Communist and Catholic schools have been doing it for years.
Your idenity is blended in and no one is outstanding.
Calmness to the classroom is so sweet to the teachers.
Students actually learn more.
Even the famous writer Maya A. gets a few things together when she is ready to write another book. She goes to a local Hotel room, removes the picture off the wall and has a very simple nondistracting working environment.
Less is more. Less distraction is more productive is another way of looking at it.

I think the 'dress code' that Nashville schools adopted would be fine.Nice actually.Just khaki, black or blue pants(no jeans or sweats) and polo type shirts.Easy school shopping, non distracting school attire. I, for one, would love to see the dress code for wearing clothes that fit enforced.I never did like to see others underwear.Of course, it is funny to see the guys with their pants waistband around their knees, when they try to run!!!

I don't think there should be a dress code. That was the whole reason I liked going to school was the way the girls dressed with their boobs hanging out and thongs showing. I think if there was a dress code alot more guys would drop out. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

I've always supported uniforms for school. B/c the dress codes just get stupid at times. At least this way there would never be any question as to way is or is not allowed. Easy shopping, and you never have to worry about what you're going to wear the next day... you can wear the same pants twice a week and no one would ever know... save some money!!!

A couple of comments on this subject. I believe that as someone else stated a casual uniform much like the ones in surrounding areas utilize should be placed into effect here in MC. Having said that I realize there are those that would say they couldn't afford to go out and buy special clothes for their children. That is casual attire and I believe anyone could find discounted clothing that would meet their budjet. If not then leave off the $200 plus shoes and buy the uniform for school. It teaches respect to the children as well as disipline. It leaves the "I'm better than you look at my expensive clothes" concern at the front door and gives equality to each child that enters the doors for an education. It also leaves more time for the students and teachers to actually do what they are there to do rather than monitoring and sending children home for things they shouldn't be wearing. It's just something that should be done is schools.

One addition. I have seen many of our local teachers attire and must say that if you are going to require students to dress within guidelines that our teachers should certainly be given the same guidelines. These teachers attempting to gain respect standing at the front of a room full of children wearing jeans, sandles, sundress, sportwear and other forms of attire just isn't acceptable for an authority figure. If you want respect from the students you should dress in a professional manner and for those I have seen, thread worn faded t shirts, faded jeans and soiled shoes isn't what one should expect from a teacher. That isn't directed at any one teacher nor all teachers, I have seen some that dress very nice as well however there are few of those that do and many more that don't.

Uniforms take away individuality and any thought that may have to go into what a child decides to wear to school everyday. This takes away their right to expression. Maybe a few parents should make their children dress more respectably so it wouldn't ruin it for the others. If you think that them all wearing the same will stop the look at my clothes that are better than yours line, you are sadly mistaken.... Then it will just be oh she has a Wal Mart or Target uniform, look at mine that came from the GAP.It's our job as parents to teach our children to deal with life and making them wear a uniform is not the answer. We need to teach them how to dress respectably and respond to problems that arrise.

Having attended a scholl where you were required to wear a uniform..I am NOT for uniforms...now..before I am flamed...I am a mother in her early 40's. I just do not agree with uniforms. No my kids don't run around in the latest fashions some days either but they can get up in the morning and put on a pair of jeans and a tee shirt and head off to school to learn. I am raising my children that is isn't what ya wear but what you learn that makes you the person you are. The name on your butt means nothing. When they hit the real world they will have to learn this lesson anyway...might as well let 'em get it over with now and get through the harder lessons later.......... A uniform is not gonna change that and even if you have uniforms the "cool kids" always change them a bit anyway=)

Teachers should be required to dress professionally and I certainly do. I have never had on a pair of jeans in front of the classroom. But teachers cannot be made to dress as the children because we work under a contract and that is not included in our contract. Inappropriate dress should be handled as any other situation is handled with a teacher. My school system is going to a more rigid dress code next year and I feel it is an excellent idea. We strictly inforce the dress code in my school and will continue to do so. There are no holes and no cleavage and certainly no sagging in my school. There are other schools in my county that do not abide by the rules. When students break dress code, I send them home and then they serve time in ISS.

That is understandable but I think you will agree that although there are many of the teachers who are dressed impeccable there are those that dress unprofessional and although I have never seen or read a contract for teachers, I believe it should include dressing in a professional manner and again, jeans and t shirts isn't professional attire for anyone.

I agree that teachers should dress the part but what I am saying is that it would never get in a contract. We have a union and it would never pass. I am not real sure about Marshall County. But when I worked here, we had a union. I was a union member here and the TEA was pretty strong.

Think it would be a great idea! teachers don't have to worry about modesty. girls would wear long plaid skirts in school colors and a nice crisp blouse. Boys would wear long pants and a long sleave shirt and sweater vest. that would be for the winter. for the summer the sirls would wear knee length skirts and a shot sleeve blouse. the boys would wear a dressy t- shirt and long knee lenght shorts. For shoes mabey penny lofers!
Lets do it

Lets give those teachers a raise so they can go shopping and buy some nicer clothes! They should all wear heels while standing on concrete infront of 20 students all day! Heels and skirts while walking those children from class to class and up and down hills to the playground! Even the PE teachers! But some of those men wouldnt look too good in heels.? What will we do?
