Oh yeah, and another thing as far as how smart Mr. McCullough is. The newspaper article stated that he graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1980. At least, he has a college degree! I talked to someone and verified this, and it happened to be someone who actually went to college with him and was in the same fraternity as he was. He also worked on my parents' satellite dish, and my parents are elderly and also on social security. They were ready to pay him for at least 2 hours of work, and he just charged them for his gas! My parents think he is very caring and honest, which is hard to come by these days!

How smart some are? Wow...maybe if you had a little more intelligence you would have checked and found out that the deadline was moved up. The day after, he was notified and he immediately sought to find a way to be re-elected. Many citizens who attend the school board meetings, including me, have come to John in support of his re-election and offered him any help that we can give for we value his service to the Marshll County School System! You should do a little more research before you insult someone of such high respect around Lewisburg and Marshall County, until then, you should probably stick to the x's and o's in the locker room coach.

He should not have to be notified. If he of the election beings he is in the position he is. Also he has had his turn let new ideas and new people have a chance at government. To many want power and position for life.
All should have and opportunity too participates in government and government office .We need Change in politics. We need people who are on the ball about elections and dates.
Not people who sit on their tail and wait to be notified.
If you don't get to the game on time it will start with out you.

First of all you're killing me with your grammar...your to and too's are mixed up...now lets get to the subject of the matter. Franklin Deleanor Roosevelt was elected as President of this great United States for four consecutive terms. If not for John, Mr. Denton would run unopposed. The People have a right to choose who their representative is and if it just so happens to be someone with experience so be it. Sits on his tail?! Wow that confirms you do not know Mr. McCullough at all. With a wife and four children that is almost implausible. He works as a satellite installer and runs service calls from seven in the morning to seven at night. As one of his customers, I have never seen a man as kind and patient with the elderly, as "Love Teaching" can obviously relate to. He spends his days running in and out of houses in any weather and in his spare time he works on a family-owned farm. Very rarely will you catch Mr. McCullough "sitting on his tail." And as a former basketball player, if you don't get to any sporting event on time, "You better have a d*** good reason." Well I believe this was one of those rare cases...

Sit on his tail? You've got to be kidding! All I have ever heard is how hard he works and how many hours he puts in. When he came to our school, we got into a conversation about his "real" job that puts food on the table for his family. Did you know that he works 6 days a week, 7 if you count Sunday afternoons? A lot of the teachers are his customers. They said they have even called him on a holiday such as Christmas Eve or even Christmas Day because they bought a new TV or something, and he has come over. He also helps run his family farm when he has the time. He has four children, one that just graduated from college, one that is starting third year of college, and 2 boys still in high school. When I attend the school board meetings, he comes running in sometimes in his sweaty work clothes. If you really ARE a coach, I would be interested to see how SMART YOU are, what was your degree in, and what classes you teach besides coaching! Who said he HAD to be notified? He never said he had to be notified. Even though that's what they usually do, that was not the real reason. Again, even the editor of the paper admitted the deadline was moved up. YOU think it is about POWER? Find ONE person, teacher, or parent who believes he is on there for power. Whenever any of us teachers have had a conversation with Mr. McCullough, he is very soft spoken and mild mannered. Maybe, your being a coach is about POWER, but sounds like you need to walk in his shoes for ONE day! My principal even told me he would drive all the way to Nashville to take care of her elderly dad. I guess you are so perfect, you have never made a mistake and you win all your games, right? Plus, it sounds like you're for the opposition, anyway, because Mr. Denton was quoted in that article as saying he is interested in sports, and it sounds like academics come in second place! YEAH, that is EXACTLY what we need--a school board member pushing more sports instead of improving academics! And the funny thing is, he has a son that is a starter on the MCHS basketball team, and yet he still is more interested in improving academics! By the way, use spell check!

Oh, just to clarify my last comment. Mr. McCullough is the one who has a son that starts for the MCHS basketball team. I use to have his son in class. He is a very good student, but his dad told me at a parent teacher conference once that his son's grades would always come first before basketball. He loved watching his son play, but his education would always be the priority. As a teacher, I truly admire this!

Well let’s see John was born in a rich Family.
It doesn’t take a College education too work on TV. Are be on the school board. Also if he is a farmer he don't have the time for school board. Farmers tell me farming is a 24 - 7 job.
I agree 10 people should run for that office.
I hear some run because they think it will make it easier on their kids in school.
We have allot of people Sap off the government and power too long. One of the reasons the government is in the shape it’s in.
They get the power are job and want it for life.
Gee, I just think More people should have a chance to participate in their own government.
Besides that no public office, elected are appointed, should last more than 2 years at the most.
This is supposed to be a government of the people?

If not for John, Mr. Denton would run unopposed. The People have a right to choose who their representative is and I agree too.
But my real thinking is more and different people should run for office and participate in their goverment.
What was the reason! He forgot are though someone else would run. Are you talked him into it.
All them boys are soft spoken. They were taught that. Good teaching too.
I just might vote for him beings you are so sweet.
Gee ! I should have had a Teacher Like you.
Why don't you become a politician too?
But now we can't have him late for the game. LOL

First of all, it is Satuday night. Secondly, I thought you were a teacher, also. So, what is your excuse? I am up with my sick baby that woke up and won't go back to sleep! Sorry, but at least I am off for the summer as a teacher. Farmers work even harder in the summer. What do you do in your spare time in the summer? So, try selling that argument to a farmer. Why don't you just start all over. AND what do you mean all teachers who go to college? All teachers have to go to college. Does that mean you didn't? Then how are you certified to teach? Ummmmmmmmmmmmm??? And yeah, I know it is bedtime. Try telling that to my infant!

Just want to share my thoughts.

Butthead, please or (or) are, you are killing me. I don't use spell check and don't care, but atleast get them words straight. Now that said.

The person speaking of the poor.

I am sorry, the poor do it to themselves. I am not poor, but came from a poor family. I had some goals and applied myself, went back to college when i could afford it and become somewhat someone.

The poor's problem (for the most part), I know, I was with them at one time:

- Most do not have strong work ethics because up lack of good parenting.
- They depend on the system because it is all they know. They laugh at workers and brag about almost getting the same pay as workers.
- They have addictions, to drugs, alcohol and tobbaco products, again, how they were brought up. Them alone are big $$$ items today, better spent to better their lives.
- They were brought up by parents with bad asss attitudes, those who lack respect for authority and schools and they continue it with their children.
- They work harder at getting out of work then they do trying to improve themselves. They strive to achieve disability as soon in life as possible. Again using the system.
- The chose the wrong path in life and were arrested, charged with a felony or mulitplies whichs makes it impossible to get a real job so now they think we owe them, they tried.
- They were poor young so they think it was all because of the rich who did not share their money. BTW..The top 15% pays 85% of the taxes

- They failed to try in school and blame the school system. thier attitudes were: screw school and all the preps who are within the school system. They also believe the only reason people get by is the preps already having money.

- I spoke to several kids in the past about joing the military and amking a career out of it. Hell no, they don't have the time or dedication. They want instant retirement. All pay with no sweat.
This area has a lot of what is described. We have more than our share in Lewisburg.

Bottom line, the rich person was right, most are lazy and they would rather steal than earn anything. the harder you work and the way you carry yourself and sell yourself to an employer, the better you become. But all that takes dedication, hard work and good attitude.

- As for stealing, the attitude is, the rich can afford it, they owe them anyways. Most poor are stupid and that is why they are poor.

- Anyone can climb out of the poor catagory, but they have to help themselves first.

I for one enjoy seeing someone prosper in life. Those who earned it. We have a fat slob of a man who one a lotto. I met him once and thought he was the biggest a-hole in the world. You can dress a bum in a tux, but all you have at the end is a bum dressed in a tux.

As for donating (rich person), I reviewed your list and I gave to each and every organization one way or another, just like you. The only difference was you gave land for your religious feel good thing, which is not a bad thing.

We for one asked for 3 years for the HRS to find one family who was so poor and tried their darnest to make it that did not smoke or drink so we can make Christmas happy for them. We ended up giving to the same family for 3 years and they ran up the list more and more every year.
The final year was like a $600-$700 Christams bill for them. We felt good about giving but felt used. It was a single mom and no we never met them.

The beauty pageant. FIRST: We have WAY TOO many here. More brain than looks, that what we need. What about giving our kids who excel in school more credit???? Most of the winners are fakes who don't have a clue about life or academics.
As for a single mom. i don't have a good or sound view other than we have too many. Yes be proud that you could keep the baby, but don't throw it in people's faces. Most pageant moms do pageants more for them than the baby or daughter.

I happen to be a teacher in Marshall County, and I know how caring a school board member John has been with teachers as well as the voters in his district. I read a clarification printed by the newspaper in the next publication where his wife took issue with that headline. He didn't forget. The deadline was a few days earlier this year. Get your facts straight. We need more board members like him who return your phone calls. Believe me, I know. I've had to call upon him before. He has even been out to our school to talk to us when we had a problem. When people tell me they cannot get their school board representative to call them back, I tell them to call John even though they are not in his district. They told me they were surprised when he actually returned their phonecalls and tried to help them. I hope the voters DO write his name in!!!
Time for John to let someone else have that position. He's a good guy but he has served enough. Denton isn't a good choice at all. Someone else should do it besides those 2.

On the flip side, you have many parents concerned about about too much homework during ball season. It's ridiculous how much time leagues and coaches ask of parents and school children during an academic year. Other counties suspend games and practices during T-Cap. Why not in Marshall?
No, not all of the schools give out those silly awards. Where my child attends, they did not give out any awards. I thought that was just fine. Everyone cannot get an award, so just leave the award giving out!

Since this has been on the topic of Cornersville, I am glad that I can finally address an issue that has been bothering me since I attended my grandson's kindergarten graduation in May. I live in Nashville and came down to attend this event and the more I think about it the more bothered I am by the "awards" that are given out to these children. Don't get me wrong, I am proud of my grandson for the award he got but I was very uncomfortable and embarrassed for the children that received the more ridiculus awards of "Most teeth lost" and "Best Hallwalker", etc. Wow- that is an achievement to really be proud of!! When that child gets older they can look back and say "Gee Mom.....remember when I got the "Most Teeth lost" award in kindergarten." I believe the teachers can think up something a little better than that without making it such a blow to a little one's self esteem. Everyone there knows how special it is to get the more academic titled awards...think about the families there whose child gets the silly ones. Do all the elementary schools in Marshall county do this? My advice is to do away with these "awards", especially in front of an auditorium full of people!
Sorry hit the wrong reply button the first time.

I know very little about Mr. Denton, but I have to say, when I needed a listening ear, John McCullough was there. He got in touch with Mr. Pierce for me, and I immediately received a phone call from him. If it had not been for John McCullough and Tim Harrison, my teenager, who was attending one of the highschools would have had a nervous breakdown. John was especially caring, and he was not my board member at the time. He took the appropriate steps and followed through for me. I will never forget that.

Why did you not contact your own board member first?
Are works through the teacher, principal, superintendent,
then Board.
Never, ever go to the top first. It makes them all mad, they feel left out.

So sorry... I did not think I needed to go into a long explanation. Of course I talked to teachers first. I would never just call up a board member or the director for ANY problem. There's a right way to do just about anything. The chain wasn't working for me. I called John McCullough because he seemed to be very approachable. I'm sorry that you misunderstood and got off the subject. With saying that, I believe John is a kind-hearted, intelligent man, who doesn't anger easily. He has a great work ethic, as well.
