Drugs in Red River Parish

[One mom against drugs]

First, I would like to say...this topic is not about one race or another.

I, and a few others that I have spoken to about this matter are very concerned about the children of all the communities in Red River Parish.

We have a serious drug problem!

There are the citizens who grew up here, that have gotten away with doing, sharing and selling drugs for years because they are related to someone, know the right person...or who have simply gone under the radar. We also have the ones who are here for work because of all the work being done, who are bringing more drugs in.

What is a bigger concern to me is, we have MOTHERS and FATHERS giving their own children drugs and alcohol, and OTHER PEOPLES CHILDREN!

Some of us (I would like to think most of us) do our best to raise our children to be strong and to say NO! This does not always work however. Teen love can be peer pressure...wanting friends can be too....then there is always the "just once wont hurt" attitude.

Our children, if given the opportunity to partake, and they do...should be held accountable. No doubt. However THE ADULTS ENCOURAGING THIS BEHAVIOR SHOULD BE HELD AT A HIGHER ACCOUNTABILITY!

I would like others thoughts and ideas on how to clean up our streets! We as parents can say "oh this is a small area, that does not happen here" or " only certain people do that" but that is simply not the truth.

Our parish legal system needs our help to clean up our schools and our streets...and for those in the legal system helping to keep our schools and streets dirty...THEY NEED TO BE BOOTED OUT!!!!

Are we going to let drinking & driving as well as drug use be ok around our homes, schools, and communities?!

I had a long stint with drug abuse living here in good ole Coushatta. One culprit that contributed to drinking and drug abuse was a lack of social stimulation. There was nothing much to do around here. No band in school, no art promotion, nothing culturally relevant. Keep in mind this was in the early to mid 90's.

Busting the drug dealers will be a temporary fix. We have to be involved with the kids and create some things for them to do. Sports are great, I love them. But can't we also promote some art and cultural things as well? I am thinking the schools are much much better than they were, but I have no kids, so I can accurately judge that. All this is my opinion, take it or leave it.

I agree with the basics of what you're saying. The problem, as always, would be funding for such things.

If you are from Coushatta then you should know, race does not matter when drugs are involved.

They are all over... Coushatta, Martin, Hall Summit...I think we should be worried about the problem, not the race. The problem is with drugs and they see no color...nor do the people that are hooked on them or selling them on our streets! I myself am tired of watching people in my community who drive with beer in their hands..and high as a kite! These are white people by the way!

The drugs aren't going to go away. They are a source of income for those who don't care to work or to maximize their GOD-given talents.

Some individuals are not motivated. Thus they do whatever it takes to get $$$$. Have multiple babies then live off the gov't.

Sell drugs, sell their body, sell stolen goods, etc.

People love to escape reality, again, do the drugs.

Some kids grow up watching mother and daddy do it so that's how they think one is supposed to live life.

Drugs will never drown out the reality of life. Drugs will age a person before his/her time.

Drugs will take all your money, your family, your self-respect, your home, your car, make you steal from loved ones, place you in jail, give you a rapsheet.

Do what GOD wants. Ask HIM to guide your life. Make something of yourself and instill self-confidence.

Get an education, get a degree from college. A job will find you.

Obey GOD, leave all the consequences to him. Be true to yourself. Each of us is the master of our own destiny. Nobody will do it for us, except ourselves.

Don't give up, don't ever give up.

Until we the people stand up for what is right and teach our kids what is right DRUGS will always be a problem. It starts at home teach your children that drugs are WRONG. Teach them to say NO.

Just "saying no" is easier said than done anymore. People will bake weed into brownies... some mothers think it is "ok" for kids to drink "as long as their kids and their friends are at their house".
It is hard enough as a child to say no to peer pressure from kids their own age... but how hard is it when adults they are supposed to be looking up to are saying oh here, its ok....
We need to be teaching our kids no, this is true...but we also need to be taking a stand with people in our own neighborhoods who have slid under the radar, or just flat gotten away with things for so long.

Yes that is a very true statement it will take more than just saying NO. It will take WE THE PEOPLE to make a difference. Keep in mind that we will need people who won't crawfish when the heat gets to hot. We have taught or children to look up to authority figures and the cold hard truth is alot of these same people are corrupt and involved with illegal drugs and drinking. When you go to the law and ask for help just to talk to your teenagers about the path that drugs and alcohol will take them down they are to busy or just don't care. We need to form a DRUG FREE Coushatta group and try to make a difference.
