It means the rest of LA county is less business friendly than LB. It doesn't mean LB is business friendly.

Maybe, if you're only polling nail parlors, wig shops and pupuserias.

The selection of Long Beach confirms that this award is a joke.

Those of us who own small businesses would agree that LB is generally pretty business-friendly in comparison with other cities in LA County, such as LA and Santa Monica, that tax you and hassle you to death for doing business w/ their city-- As a consequence, residents of those cities end up paying more for their goods and services. The cost of the additional taxes, filling out humongous RFP's, and unnecessary meetings are passed on to... you guessed it, the residents. Long Beach, so far, is smooth sailing in comparison. Let's hope they don't mess it up.

Are you kidding me? These people have, obviously, never owned a business here. Business license fees have doubled in recent years, As have, apartments building license fees. Sold your home lately? Garage inspection fees are ridiculous.....Don't have a garage? You still have to pay. Been to Building and Safety recently? Aren't they some of the friendliest people around?
The property owners are under constant watch by mafia style,'code enforcment' officers...which is nothing more a thinly disguised profit center for the city. The City of Long Beach, under the direction of the City Manager, enploys a staff dedicated to finding new ways to take money away from viable businesses and 'rich' property owners.
Of course.... I get it now! They got the award from giving taxpayer money to new businesses, in the form of incentives. Yeah that makes sense!

According to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation web site, Long Beach has been a finalist for the award since its inception, but has never received the award until this year. What does that tell you?

According to the award criteria, Long Beach received the award due in large part because of the huge amount of money dedicated to the expansion of the PORT. Really, the Port received the award, not the City of Long Beach.

Who did the city pay to get this award? I guess this is why me and many others took our business elsewhere because the city is so business friendly. haha

If Long Beach truly deserves this award, then the rest of Los Angeles County is in truly bad shape as regards being friendly to business. However, the facts belie this assumption. One has only to look at all the businesses which have chosen to locate in surrounding cities such as Lakewood over the last several years. There are reasons for them to make that choice.

Well, at least the potheads can get their "medical" pot locally. Rather than exercising their elected duty to close them down, the "business friendly" politiocrats seek to legitimize the existence of "medical" pot drug dealers.(except within 1000 feet of the library where their own sensitive noses might otherwise be exposed to secondhand pot smoke while they sniff around city hall)

Who can argue this is not a good thing? Government disability laws will undoubtedly be construed to permit Government to collect the 10% food and drink tax by allowing potheads to "medicate" in the citys' NO TOBACCO SMOKERS! restaurants, coffee houses, and beer joints.

So far, 14 remarks blasting the award and one for the award.

It's unanimous on LB Report that the award was ridiculous.

I don't shop in Long Beach, except for food. There is nothing here. And the small businesses are not that friendly.

I wonder where Long Beach would rank if an award was given for most resident friendly city. I'm guessing somewhere near the bottom.

Could not agree more. Businesses are valued more than residents in this town...businesses that benefit those who live elsewhere.

LB has always been known for it's LACK of business friendliness. Everything must have a permit and that permit costs plenty. Businesses are what holds the city together and pays the bills. I have never understood why this city by the sea can't see that. Has it really come down to greed, what perks you get because of who you are or who you know? Seems that way.

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Cancer

Someone dear to your heart isn't exactly a barrel of laughs today, are they? Is it your imagination or are they taking a perverse delight in spreading doom and gloom in all directions? If they've got good reason to be miserable then they deserve your sympathy, but even so it may not last for long. Try to keep active and cheerful, otherwise you'll also develop a tendency to brood.
