Millions of Cubans voted Sunday for parliamentary candidates in elections critics say are closed and offer no real competition, but that the government defends as part of grass-roots democracy.

More embelishments from the CIA-Financed Rag,'Babalu Blog',(B.B. for short or, in fact, B.S.). 612 Candidates eh? Aren't they voted on by citizens meetings in the various cities, towns, and boroughs? Just like in the,'good ol' USA', the President (Raul), picks the best candidates for the various posts. Twist that around as you will. Anyone who believes ANYTHING, that the B.B. posts, is in for a shock, when they do a little aggressive research in 'Wikipedia' or 'Google'. B.B. has a way of twisting the truth, to benefit the CIA, FBI, USAID, or any other nefarious division of the US Government.
Check out the increasing number of young persons', females', and blacks', that make up the numbers of elected Candidates in parliament. THINGS ARE CHANGING FAST IN THE NEW CUBA!

Yes,things are changing in Castros Cuba!
You are a Communist idiot!
What you call changes is that Raul is dissmantling all the stupid and some of the repressive idiotic laws that Fidel Forced on Cuba for 50 years and that took Cuba to the Dark Ages!
He is not making changes because le loves Cuba he is making some changes because he knows that the actual system
which he help Fidel to create is a big fooking failure that is in bankrupsy!
A crazy system that has divided the Cuban people with more than 20% of its people living abroad,a system that has broke families,a system that have killed thousands of Cuban a failured system that has only survived because it first
had the massive help of the Soviets and now has the massice help of a Venezuela clown(Chavez) who Fidel created and Raul knows that the clown is dying or dead and he has veen forced to allow some changes, but he won't make all the necessay changes that Cuba needs because he is part of all if Cuba problem
and the co-creator of all the missery Cuba is suffering!
He is makung no changes he is just dismantling a failured dictatorship who ge helped to create!Either you are a very naive person or a fooking old communist!

Your fascist embargo has been a nightmare for the island but you could not care less.
You sir are a foooking fascist and distorter of facts.
"UN Condemns U.S.s Cuba Policy, 188-3"
It stays partly because of the influence of right-wing Cubans in Miami, but theyve been weakened with the recent loss of David Rivera. The other half of it is the apparent desire of the State Department to punish Cuba for disobedience. Its funding AID programs to foster civil society but the Cubans rejected the civil society they had with Batista and dominated by the mafia. Civil society, a term no one seems to look up, according to Rousseau, is based around the bourgeoisie and protecting property. The Cubans have built a different society based on social justice and equality. They are privatizing some, but its unlikely that will change.

HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH CONDDEMS CASTRO'S DICTATORSHIP!
Cuba remains the only country in Latin America that represses virtually all forms of political dissent. In 2011 Raúl Castros government continued to enforce political conformity using short-term detentions, beatings, public acts of repudiation, forced exile, and travel restrictions.
In 2011 the Cuban government freed the remaining 12 political prisoners from the group of 75 dissidentshuman rights defenders, journalists, and labor leaders who were sentenced in 2003 in summary trials for exercising their basic rightshaving forced most into exile in exchange for their freedom. Also in 2011 the government sentenced at least seven more dissidents to prison for exercising their fundamental rights, and human rights groups on the island said dozens more remain in prison.
The government increasingly relied on arbitrary arrests and short-term detentions to restrict the basic rights of its critics, including the right to assemble and move about freely. Cubas government also pressured dissidents to choose between exile and continued repression or even imprisonment, leading scores to leave the country with their families during 2011.
Cubans who criticize the government are subject to criminal charges. They are exempt from due process guarantees, such as the right to a defense or fair and public hearings by a competent, independent, and impartial tribunal. In practice, courts are subordinated to the executive and legislative branches, denying meaningful judicial protection.
Dozens of political prisoners remain in Cuban prisons, according to respected human rights groups on the island. In June 2011 the Cuban Council of Human Rights Rapporteurs issued a list of 43 prisoners whom it said were still incarcerated for political reasons. In May 2011, four dissidents from HavanaLuis Enrique Labrador, David Piloto, Walfrido Rodríguez, and Yordani Martínezwere prosecuted on charges of contempt and public disorder for demonstrating in Havana's Revolutionary Square and throwing leaflets with slogans such as Down with the Castros. They were sentenced to three to five years in prison. The council estimates that there are many more political prisoners whose cases they cannot document because the government does not let independent national or international human rights groups access its prisons.
