Cuban artists denied visas

There are 216 comments on the New York Daily News story from Jul 3, 2007, titled Cuban artists denied visas. In it, New York Daily News reports that:

“I have been working with friends in the U.S. design world, and we are going to continue working on this exhibition, which is good for cultural and professional relationships between Cubans and Americans”

Political strife can divide bonds sealed in art. Just ask Cuban graphic designer Hector Villaverde who, because the U.S. denied him a visa, cannot attend a Queens College show featuring his own work. via New York Daily News

How terribly sad! "Sharing Dreams" is the theme of this art show but political littleness on the part of the U.S. go'vt denys these artist entry into the U.S. Several years ago I raised the funds to bring 12 Cuban teenagers from a chruch in Cuba to visit the U.S. and a 'sister chruch' in my home state of N.C - what a shock when they visited the U.S. Interests Section in Havana and were treated most unkindly and immediately denied a visa for the visit. How do you explain this to innocent teens who just wanted to see the U.S. and create friendships and dialogue? And please, don't insult my intelligence by saying it is all Castro's fault!!

The U.S. is supposed to be a free and democratic nation - you turned this issue around - I know many Cubans have problems traveling to other nations - the child I brought to the U.S. for medical care several years ago was allowed to travel with his mother but his father was not permitted to go with us. There is no argument that this does happen in Cuba. BUT, the U.S denying Cuban kids a visitors visa from a chruch - and in addition, I know how discourteous the U.S. immigration officers at the U.S. Interests Section treated these innocent teens. This is unforgiviable and a cruel way for the U.S. to get back at Castro. there is no excuse for this!!

This Country knows exactly Cuba's Goverment Game, They have been playing it for years and by my surprise, so it is about time to stop this. Many of this so called Artists and Educational Interchange promoters and now in USA Jail for trying to Capture our youngsterns inn Universities here in USA soil to become Traitors to USA. The game is over, go some place else for the Interchange, they should try other countries like Venezuela,Iran,China,VietNam, Bolivia,Nicaragua, after all Castro thinks we are the most Imperialist-Assesins Country and also his #1 Enemy. APLAUSOS A USA !!!!! Y FUERA DE AQUI TODO EL QUE QUIERA HACERNOS DANO!!!

LOL! Cuban visa applications are the ONLY visas the State Department loves to deny. One call to the White House is probably all it takes.

But CG..........US suppose to be a democratic nation? and isn`t? US is not perfect...did you think Cuba should not be democratic also even if is not perfect. Cuba has deny and is denying day in and day out Cubans to travel and joint their families out of Cuba and if you want me I will make a list of the most notorius cases....There are hundred of examples along this 48 years...CG there is not EXCUSE for the same president to impose his will and stay in the office for 48 years and still refuse to give up power to new generations and a new system that pull Cuba out the CAOS is today.......That is UNFORGIVIABLE and CRUEL.
You keep getting lost in secondary issues and let me tell you this......there will be not solution for the issues you are so concern regarding Cuba untill Castro and his system desapear from the picture......
You can keep wasting your time if no priorizing the main issues.
Once Castro and his system out the picture and the rest of the issues will fall in place sooner or later...it is already prove that there is not any other way....It is call SIMPLE LOGIC.

One thing is to give your Democratic Opinion and another is lie and accused.... So we will respond with the truth.VIVA CUBA SIN CASTRO Y YO NO COOPERO CON LA DICTADURA

Que clase de artista!

¨Silvio Rodríguez, intelectual de la izquierda totalitaria¨.

Dr. Darsi Ferrer
