Does anyone on here remember the old Shake-N-Burger that was out on Hwy. 51? What about Joe's Hamburger place that was downtown? If you do, share some memories with us please.

I remember the Shake-N-Burger. If I remember right, Joes was down from a boot/leather repair store. He had stools next to the counter and made some fine burgers. I remember Ben Franklin's...used to go in there to get toys, jaw breakers, and such. And I remember the comic book store on the back side of the same block. Wasn't there a drug store in the shopping center that used to serve malts and food? I'm in my 40s but can remember some of this stuff. My older siblings can probably remember it in greater detail.

The drug store was Bigg's Drugs and it was in the "new" shopping center that opened in the early 70's. Among other shops, there was a Sunflower Food Store, a TWL, a Dollar Store, and a shoe store. Do you remember going to the swimming pool on Lee Ave. next to the community center? Can you remember the old train depot and the various shops on front street? What about Saturday matinees at the Crystal Theatre? Crystal Springs was a great place to grow up in during the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Did you go to school in Crystal Springs?

Anyone remember "The Grill"? It used to be where the old BP (now Texaco) is located. Mary made the best breakfast!

And "Our Town"....owned by Chet. He had a great breakfast as well.

Sadly we no longer have a good breakfast spot....now we have to drive to Stark's in Hazelhurst to get a good breakfast.

I remember Joes and the Shake N Burger well! Shake N Burger was as much a hang out for teenagers as anything. They had decent burgers but if you wanted a real burger, Joes was the place to go. My parents had a clothing store on front street in Crystal Springs and as young boy I would go to work with them from time to time and I always went to Joes for a burger. His Super Burger was his signature burger. He only put diced onions, diced dill pickles and mustard on it. Something about the simplicity of that combo that made it wonderful! Joe said his secret was he always chose high quality meat. One day I had the cheeseburger and that changed everything! Cheese, lettuce tomato, onion and mayo. I would finish off one of those and then head around the block to the news stand to have a Dr Pepper or RC cola (in the bottle with real sugar of course) play some pinball and read a few comic books. Still the best burger I've ever had and some of the happiest days of my life.
