Nicely organized family event. However, am I the only one who thinks that having assualt weapons on display by the Crystal Lake Police Department in the middle of the street was an act of brainless stupidity?? Standing back I couldn't help over hear several officers who were showing the guns say things like "pretty cool huh" to my neighbors 2nd grade boy. Another officer handing out tatoos of police badges commented "first comes the badge, the weapon comes later" to a 4 year old girl. Seriously?? I very much respect the men in blue and appreciate the fact that they risk their lives to keep me and my family safe but this little insight into the mentality of the force scares me more than just a little. What exactly is a display of illegal firearms supposed to invoke in a 7 year old boy? If they were trying to show the public the weapons that have been confiscated from the town, a picture or poster would have sufficed. Having them there to touch and hold seems to me counter productive in trying to keep them off the streets and deter a general interest in them...in guns altogether. Very disappointing...
