It is woderful to hear that the YMCA is finally going to use the land that they have on Pinney Street to build this facility. My biggest concern is how will the town manage the impact on the already congested 5 Corners intersection. DOT is planning to construct a roundabout at this intersection some time in 2010. I hope that they are considering ways to move pedestrian and bicycle traffic through the intersection. The town should be looking at the possibility of constructing sidedwalks on Pinney Street and in the neighborhoods around the new facility to encourage pedestrian access and minimize the increase in vehicular traffic. State grant money should fund such improvements. We have over two years to plan for this. The time to start is now.

Let hope the state does something here maybe between the two of them they can figure something out.??...Not one person at Ellington public works can put together the simple fact that TWO AT A TIME at the single wide bridge they have near there would save tons and tons of time..???..I sugested it and they basicly told me they are the experts not me..??...Yeah big experts ..!!...

This would be a good asset to the area if they have a pool any way...since the only swimming in the area crystsal lake is open like two days a year..!!!!

That bridge will be replaced this year, so you won't have to worry about it anymore. And although two at a time sounds good, that would cause new problems. If people used common sense and courtesy, it would work great, but I envision cars speeding up and running the stop sign to catch the car in front of it, because only one was going through.

While it looks as if they have broken ground across the street from our apartment complex on Pinney Street, does anyone know when this project is going to be finished and open to the public?

I had heard that construction will take about a year, but have long since forgotten where I heard that so I can't say how reliable that is.

I am thrilled they are putting in a pool and facility in Ellington. Any new news of when the construction will be done. I can not wait to sign up!

Certainly would not think a nice rural, with plenty of space to move area, like Ellington would need a y.m.c.a...is that not a club for inner cities ? Guess they won't be happy until every town looks like that dreadful Manchester. How about horse riding and trail walking... do we really need to erect more mortar and metal ? Very upset here

Couldn't be happier about this. I live right around the corner from here. Having a year round pool will be invaluable. I look forward to using this facility frequesntly with my family.
