The April 1 2008 election is only...
5 months 19 days 7 hours 45 minutes, or
24 weekends, or
171 days, or
4087 hours, or
245,265 minutes away...

For all those who want to see a change in OV in the April 08 election… Please provide what kind of change you are looking for.

What do you want from your Aldermen, Mayor, Collector and Treasurer?

What questions do you have for your candidate Aldermen, Mayor, Collector and Treasurer leading up to the April 08 election?

What direction do you believe OV should be headed in 08-09?

What direction do you believe OV should be headed in the next 5 years?

If you have a Who, What, When Where, Why and/or How; ask it.

Why here?
This thread is for the collection of thoughts for the candidates who want a future OV.

This thread is for residents to ask those questions to candidates who want a future OV.

This thread is for residents who want a future OV to speak out.

This thread is for policy, procedures and programs that the residents what from the next administration.

If you would like sidewalks… speak out.
Where do we put them first, how do we fund them?

Want to see Parades, Spring/Fall Festivals, National Night Outs (Crime Prevention Awareness programs), Back to School drives, Community Yard sales… speak out

How ‘bout a monthly community news letter… speak out.

Want something more than dial up… speak out.

If you would like a park… speak out.
If you would like a post office… speak out.
Where do we put it, how do we fund it?

Want a community trash service… speak out
Want a community recycling program… speak out
How do we fund it, how do we enforce it?

If you would like to see professional cops… speak out… what should be their qualifications?

Bring your ideas to the table, but be ready to provide a viable solution to execute your idea. If you have a viable solution to another idea listed… post it.

This is not the place for slamming the current or previous administrations… this is for providing ideas for the future administrations. If you choose to make a comment about the administration or the people use one of the other threads for OV.

The election is just around the corner…
Let’s get organized now…

Honestly, Mr. Trent, what do you care. You arent here even though you may own property. You rarely ever came home to see your family on the weekends once you sent them back here from Whiteman. As a service member are you really even allowed to get involved? Conflict of intrest isn't it? What would your command think?

i beg to differ when i would go past their house i would see her husband home a lot. and further does the trents don't have to tell everyone where they are going all the time they are big people not kid's and last but not least people can have multiple jobs and still do do their primary job.that is like the female officer i ran into at the gas station and she had a security uniform on and she is supposely an officer in here.so if what garett is doing is wrong then so is what the officer that lives in here is doing wrong to.

Its not about multiple jobs its about not even "living" in here and being miles upon miles away and thinking that you know everything thats going on. And if you go by their house so much then you would know that nobody has been around there in a long time.

Let me ask you this, what is the difference between her "security uniform" and her "police uniform" because everytime I have seen her in uniform it is the same one. Does her security one have patches that identify it a security uniform. What is the difference and furthermore the officers work here for FREE so they have to do something to support their familys. If she wants to do security while she isnt here who says she cant. who said anything about Mr. Trent haveing different jobs. you are truly crazy. Why don't you leave people alone and live your own life.

Nice thoughts from those who chose to be honest and leave some. These are a great start…
This is what I got from everyone’s thoughts…

-Dorothy,
The City Officials need to effectively communicate with the people and do so more frequently… everyone should know what is going on… not just a few!

-Just try Asking,
The City should have a more defined “Checks and Balances” within the Administration… Officials should not be able to dictate who, why or when the cops issue citations.

-Cybil, Dorothy, Just try Asking,
A residency requirement for administrators and voters… What about an enforcement of the current residency requirements?

-Someone, Cybil,
There are concerns about the Police Department…
Should there be more specific uniform requirements…
Should the duties be more defined…
Should the qualifications more defined or more strictly enforced…
Should there be higher qualification standards…
Should there be a larger or maybe separate PD facility than the Sewer Plant… Can it have padded cells…
Should the PD have benefits… What benefits should be considered first…Pay? Travel allowances? Monthly spending accounts? Free fuel when using Privately Owned Vehicles while performing OV PD duties? What would be a work around for the PD Grant from ‘98-‘99 (‘99 Audit conclusions) if pay is considered?

As in the original post, if you want (or have) to be a name basher, Please do it on one of the other OV threads.

This is intended for a “what do we want from our city” site, not a “what can we say bad about the residents” site.

Garrett, I give you credit for still staying up with the ov situations as your job takes you away. Even tho you are not here at this time and are still a property owner and will reside here when your military time expires, at least you take the time in your busy schedule to input. It`s a shame people have to bash others and put their nose where it does not belong and discuss things that don`t pertain to what these sites are about.

OV should be dissolved and turned over to Jefferson County. This would do away with police issues, & government issues. Sell the sewer dept. This would shut down all of the controversy and finger pointing, enabling all the residents to go on and live a peaceful life.

Do all O.V. residents know that city hall was broken into on monday night 10-29-07? Do you know things were stolen? Do you know they crippled the city? Residents investigate! These people broke the law, the whole thing should be handled by the police. Two alderman and ex-mayor were involved.

This weeks breakdown on the collection of thoughts for your review…
“To Garrett” and “Georgia Green”:
Security concerns… better police protection… re-creation of the police board to consider improvements and present a good plan to the city board…any other ideas that were not mentioned before in previous posts “bout the police department?
Backyard privacy… privacy fences from side edge of homes to property lines? This could work for all new construction, but how ‘bout everyone else? Should the fence be white picked or natural wood? Should the fence be only 3 feet or should it be higher? This would require the establishment of a planning and zoning ordinance. This would require the re-creation of a planning and zoning committee… think of all the other possibilities this could bring to the city?
Registered Voter drive… Great idea! Active voters have a right to speak out…We should have a voter registration drive to ensure that all eligible residents are qualified to go to the polls and speak their mind by making the ultimate SPEAK LOUD choice a vote for their respective ward candidates.
Neighborhood watch program… very good idea! This program shouldn’t specifically require a city endorsement, it only needs citizens to get together and get organized to look for the unordinary and report it. Anyone want to be a neighborhood watch chairman?
An investigation branch to the police department? Nice idea… Wouldn’t it be best to start out with a qualified Police Chief and then add on the extras? Who has the final authoritative word or power over the police department? Does the Mayor by virtue of Revised Missouri State Statue Chapter 79 (79.110, 79.120, 79.180, 79.190, 79.200, 79.210, 79.220, 79.230, 79.240, 79.280, and 79.370); or the city board by virtue of an ordinance that has not been written yet (79.290; power references: 79.240, 79.370, 79.390, 79.400, 79.410, 79.430, 79.450, 79.460, and 79.470)?
“Marvin Green” and “Reader”:
How do we get rid of all the city assets? Public Auction? What about the great big asset? Everyone is reminded of it when they flush.
These concerns are for a “FUTURE City” not just another housing development in the county. Anyone read the recent development/zoning rules being proposed for the county? It could more costly to fix everything to the future county standard than to continue as a city and progress towards common goals.“Dissolve” at this point should not be a consideration.
“to Georgia Green” and “Reader”:
Anyone got a degree in journalism and looking to start a new small business? Not bad… revenue and growth for the city and a few jobs for the qualified. This would help in letting the people stay informed of the true story.
A city website might also be able to provide citizens with information about upcoming events, scheduled activities and general information about the city to include who is representing your ward or which department lead do you need to contact for questions or complaints. This could provide access to information with out driving by the Sewer Plant/City Hall. How do we fund it? One option is to consider it in the FY09 budget in June 08.

As always please keep the name bashing to one of the other threads.

Keep the thoughts rolling.

Here are a few ideas to bounce around from another topix thread…

An updated city sign… great idea! I agree it is outdated, out of shape and down right a sour spot in the county; under the circumstances it fits its location well. A movie character once asked a question ‘bout showing money, just because there are blank checks in the book don’t mean they can be filled out at leisure (that’s a federal crime); the sign will cost. Do you know any organizations that might be willing to donate some time, labor or supplies to improving the sign? Non resident scouting group… Non resident veteran organization… local chamber of commerce… some other community helping organization… know a contractor looking for an end of year write off? This could be something to add to a future year’s budget plans.

City wide trash service… this is good for the town, it limits the number of trash trucks on the newer paved roads, but it is not good for the many different businesses that pick up in town. How and who would collect the money for the service? Should it be added to the city sewer utility? Would you pay more on a sewer bill if your trash was being picked up while your poo was being pumped away?

Public works department… All public areas could be maintained by 1 or 2 employees who are part of a public works department. They could maintain Delian Park and the right of way along all the roads. Where does the pay come from? Again this is another one to consider in future budget proposals.

Gated community… this is no longer just a subdivision; that changed some 40+ years ago. Have you ever seen another public entity (city) restrict who could and could not enter its limits? Although bad for PR; under the circumstances…

Here are some new ideas to think about...

-Should the employees be given an educational stipend (such as 25% of tuition costs)? What are the stipulations to use it (in same job related skills)? Where will the revenue come from to pay for it?
-Since the county and state both collect sales tax from the many different independent consultants of goods (kitchenware, picture books, clothes, candles, home decor, face and body pampering) why not have a rate set for OV? It won’t affect most citizens, just the people they invite to parties they host (and anyone else who purchases goods in the city, to include non residents that shop at the small businesses in the city)... new revenue but not all from the residents pocket books.
-Raise the rates that are charged for business license similar to the other communities around us.
-Restrict door to door solicitation (to specific times or all together)
-Change the occupancy permit rate to be similar to the communities around us
-With the recent changes in city involvement a larger space for city meetings would be good (to comply with the sunshine law)
-Neighborhood watch program

Here is another idea to present…

How about working with an out of the city agency like the school district and create “permanent” school bus stops throughout the town. These could be a cover bench just off the roadway for the students to sit at. This could help with the school district and any new families that move to the area in finding the nearest bus stop to their home. This also could help prevent school buses from having to stop at times every 10-30 yards in some areas that could be considered dangerous due to terrain, road design and potential oncoming traffic.
