Any topic that can align the Tea Party along side the ACLU is a topic we should be paying attention to.

As someone who can't stand 99% of what David Swanson says, I am in full agreement on this.

No drones over our neighborhoods. Anywhere! Ever!

Do you really think the Goverment cares what the average Joe is doing?

Just another Tea Party nut job they are trying to stir up so they can get TV time.

H'mmm, I think this is taking big brother scenario a little far. I'm against invasion of privacy, but I don't think drones used by police or federal gv't for that matter invade it anymore than agencies like the NSA or TSA already do. Trade off of crime deterrent versus civil liberties. To me it's less threatening than gun proliferation resulting from civil liberties of gun owners to pack.
The recent Nova episode shows these gliding silently high above recording real-time a good portion of a city at once, zooming in to a small bird flying or a tiny object on the ground.

Although I'd rather not have them flying over my home, drones, like street cameras can be a crime deterrent. I don't really have anything to hide, so their being used in a manner that potentially violate my 'rights' is the least of my worries.
.
But the way we currently use them to launch missiles abroad is wrong. They're creating far more terrorists than we're taking out, putting this country more at risk.
.
Drones may come in useful here to quell the home grown imminent insurrection against obamatyranny:)

If you don't think big brother isn't all ready searching through your life you don't know about FISA. Drones are a big step over the edge. While not a gun nut I could see some cool target practice with drones. What do they say when shooting skeet? Pull! But can you imagine all the costs to the taxpayers to support this invasion? The cops could do the same as drones if they weren't too lazy to get out of their cars.

To those of you who think people are taking things to far...how far are you willing to be "Nudged?" Serious question, because I would really like to know. How many freedoms are you willing to give up in the name of "security" before you'll consider things to be unacceptable? What is your tipping point? It's that story about the boiled from. You just turn the heat up in tiny increments and he never realizes he is being cooked.

Drones? As in city council members?

Boy, it's a good thing that the city council put the bum empowerment metal tables underneath the pavilion canopy. This enables the bums to drink their 40 ouncers all day long while sitting with each other without the fear of drones being able to see them.

How does the city council propose to enforce a "no fly zone" so that the Charlottesville police force can give speeding tickets to a drone flying at 100,000 feet?

Once again local infrastructure shortfalls prove far less interesting to our leftist gadflies than the problems that a Don Quixote might tilt at.

Surely the city council and NBC29 will have officials from the national intelligence community on hand to show how drones might aid in the fight against domestic terrorism. I take it for granted that a senior official from the FBI will be on hand to show our homegrown bush league do gooders the various capabilities that drones might have in terms of SIGINT, COMINT and IMINT that may possibly have helped the bureau break up COUNTLESS terror plots since 911 that might have otherwise happened in this country.

Any dullard in this town that thinks a national level asset will be used to target a clueless welfare dependent libocrat is flattering themselves to the point of abject lunacy.

Look at it this way---If the federal government was really spying on this welfare mecca there would be at least several thousand more part time drug dealers sitting inside the Peregory Lane building for liberal overachievers.

The only thing that might motivate this electorate of face stuffing type 2 diabetic wannabes is if the Wood Grill Buffet were to be attacked by Weight Watcher terrorists. The voters will die like samurai to keep the fried chicken mini mountain safe. As for UVA, well, that crowd will trip over themselves in a fast retreat at the first sign of anything that might cause dents to their BMW's.

Actually, if it were ever used it would be for finding certain crops in the county. Starting with green houses, then a platoon of troops would show up with cannons and flamethrowers, grenade launchers and tanks. All because some DOD contract got sliced. Got to support those DOD contractors, thats what this is really about. Drones in free society? pleeeeeeeeeeeeese.

Charlottesville paranoia equates to the social services office cutting off the gravy train after they discover a welfare cheat is making money off of several side jobs worth of undeclared income. That is Charlottesville paranoia countless people around here have.

Time to wake up. The crops you talk about are now being detected by sniffers on state police helicopters, and have been for many years. Spectrometers, not drones, are what the street pharmacists dread. Your post defies description. Drones have been used for years to look for forest fires in federal parks, assist in locating underground water and oil deposits, monitor wildlife migration patterns, etc. The government contractors that suck up the most taxpayer dollars are those that support federal housing and social security programs---ever hear of Medicare and Medicaid, not to mention public housing across the country? Your naivete makes you a natural for the city council.

Don't forget mapping flood plains and monitoring livestock herds as current uses of drones, tracking crop disease patterns as well. Since the city council is SO knowledgeable about drones I am sure the FAA will consult them before the fed issues policy guidelines on drones.

Hopefully one clowncil member can hitch a ride on a drone and take his "Free Tibet" sign to Beijing.
