Dino was drained in 1972 while law enforcement searched for the head of murder victim, Delores Dellapenna. You can find out more about the murder by googling her name, although none of the accounts mention Dino by name.

I was 12 in 1972 and had been spending summer days fishing in the lake for many years by then. I watched as state police dug a trench between the lake and the creek to facilitate the draining, while at the same time they has several pumps and hoses taking water from the lake and shotting it into the creek.

Eventually they concluded that the girl's head was not in the lake - although they never completely drained out all of the water. Her head has never been recovered.

But I fished the lake as a young boy and spent countless sweet days there.

And I continued to fish the lake.

In January of 1973, there alone I caught one of the biggest bass I've ever caught, even to this day. My dad was working Saturdays over at Savage Sunoco on Knights road so I walked over there with the bass first before heading home to Teton Road.

I'm a writer now, working on a story around the murder of Delores Dellapenna which begins that fateful day I walked crossed the creek to find the cops emptying my favorite fishing spot.

I'm afraid, folks, that Dinosaur Lake will remain, for most of us, nothing more than a very sweet memory of a place that could have only existed then. We're all very luck to have had the chance to find it.

I was there Sunday and it's not as bad as I expected it to be. But that doesn't mean it was good either. The spring that was once diverted to the lake is gone, I suppose with no maintainance the culvert pipe just washed away, it's down near the creek now. So the water is somewhat stagnant and appears to only get fresh water from runoff. The overflow drain is above the current lake level.

As Don posted above it seems we only have the memory left of the glory days at Dinosaur Lake.

Let's hope a summer filled with good rainfall will bring her back to life :) Nature always finds a way...and Humans can always Help ;)

It is infested with small sunfish, small bullhead catfish, small carp, and a variety of asian koi. I have never caught anything big out of there.

Wow, I vaguely remember the Dinosaurs. My Mom used to walk me over there a lot when I was very young. Sad to know that they aren't there anymore, but I too lived in Doral from around 1972 til 1978 or so. We lived in the corner apartment at the corner facing the Paquesing Creek thru one window and our other window faced the pool over the fence and the racetrack in the distance. Such fond memories of that place, even though it was a dump. But then again, nothin like dumpster divin' right?

Park along the creek near the church that used to be a movie house. Walk down into the woods and head for the creek. Just upstream are some rocks set up as stepping stones to the other side. Once over the creek just walk up the hill and the lake is right there.

I remember Dinosaur lake, we would go there as teens back in the mid 70's. I often wondered if it was still there.

Does anyone else remember it. Standish Hansell had it dug and put the concrete dinosaurs on the island. There was a concrete snake wrapped around a tree too.
