I think this is a great idea for residents of Stanislaus County and San Joaquin County. They should push this to prevent the bottle neck traffic in the Altamont. What you guys think?

I think it is a great idea to build a free way from the central valley to Silicon valley. This will minimize the traffic through the altamont, pleasanton, livermore and Dublin areas. Not to mention minimizing the automobile pollution from commuters sitting in traffic and having to drive 3x the amount of miles to go around 580 to 680 verses driving straight through the hills.

I recently purchased a new home in Patterson in Dec. and the commute is terrible. The bottle neck traffic on 580 is horrible and there always seems to have accidents on the Altamant Freeway. Your 1 hour commute turns into 2-3 hours.

The City of San Jose and the City of Patterson needs to helps support Richard Pombo because he has a great idea. This new freeway will help ease the traffic coming from Stockton, Tracy, and Dublin area. The truck drivers coming from L.A to San Jose will also aid them instead of going around. They can cut through the new expanded freeway.

Thus, this will help our environment by consuming less fuel, and wear and tear on the working people.

I'm talking about the freeway from Patterson to San Jose. Try Google
Proposed freeway
Money had been set aside by the state to study the feasibility of turning part of SR 130's legislative route from San Antonio Valley Rd east to Interstate 5 into a freeway. The road was intended to facilitate traffic between the Santa Clara Valley and the Central Valley, the latter is experiencing population growth and real estate development. The project's main proponent was former United States Representative Richard Pombo, who was the House Resources Committee chair when in Congress and himself a member of a family with extensive Central Valley property holdings near the proposed freeway's path.

The proposed freeway's path west of San Antonio Valley Road would have bypassed Mt. Hamilton either to the north toward State Route 237 or to the south toward the San Jose's Evergreen district. The feasibility of the project had come into question, however, as crossing a freeway over the Diablo range near three of its highest peaks (Mt. Hamilton included) would have been very difficult. The project also faced stiff opposition from taxpayers, environmentalists, residents of the area looking to preserve their area's local charm and from the Lick Observatory.(A freeway through the mountains near the observatory would render it useless due to light pollution.) The freeway plan has been quietly abandoned after Congressman Pombo failed in his reelection bid in 2006.

I heard the people of Patterson do not what the freeway they think it would hurt there small town. but what about the rest of the people the live in the valley and work in the bay area? We have to fight for this freeway maybe send letters to congress?I know I would like a shorter commute everyday or a shorter ride to the beach.

The freeway over the hill stinks and we want no part of it. If you don't like the long commutes to the Bay Area, you should have thought about it before you bought a house here.

Ronald Lum's comments are ridiculous. A freeway over the hill will ruin the environment by paving over a pristine area and opening up the hills to even more development.

It will not happen in this lifetime. Pombo is gone, thank God!

Too bad everyone is here now..Patterson should have been the one NOT to build if they did not want growth. There is traffic now and something needs to be done..I am guessing you are from patterson right? The mentality gives you away.

I think Freeway will help the central valley move more.. just imagine Tracy or Lathrop look at those Citys now they are growing so fast..because they know! and because of expanding the 205 and also dont forget about City of Patterson its so slow right now every corner they selling houses because i think people are moving out because not enough jobs and creating problems. Gangs also NO.1 problem in Patterson right now and I hate it..and I think Patterson is going be slow. And people in the office cant make up there mind too much proposing and nothing happen and i think too many rules and inverstor are leaving they want to move somewhere else. For me no shopping center only grocerys and we are talking about NOW they have alot brand new homes not enough Commercial like for sample TARGET OR WALMART keep proposing, proposing not happening.Or something else people of Patterson will enjoy. You go somewhere else there shopping every corner people sees that and i know its small city but dont you want your city to be popular?or improve city and grows fast. and to go the mall you have to drive to Turlock or Modesto C'mon that why there no investor wants to come in Patterson they think its too far and they should change those people in the office and make up there mind start proposing more commercial kinda like SIM CITY try to bring more investors build the freeway or commuter train to Patterson to San Jose if you dont want it Patterson move it somewhere else Newman or Westley Ill bet you a lot of people will buy a houses there or invest more jobs commercial or maybe who knows crows landing airport (old navy airport) will turn out to be central valley international airport so u dont have to drive up to SFO SAC. you never know. what will be happen .Im just imagining will see

What mentality is that? I don't want to spend billions on a road to the Bay Area just to help commuters get to the Bay Area faster. Commuters made a choice to move to Patterson. Now they have to live with it.

Give me a break. Regardless of the money we are going to have to pay sometime whether you like it or not..eventually it is going to happen. And as far as the commuters are concerned..THIS CITY was the one who build homes and people bought, if you want to be pissed with someone be pissed with the City of Patterson and go let the councel know how you feel they are the ones calling the shots and for your info. are about to build more than 3000 homes minumum. If they don't do anything about the traffic it will be bad for everyone including yourself and not JUST commuters going to work, this is for every day usage because of the expanding growth and safety for people traveling and truckers. there are a lot of scenerios to consider. So too bad it's going to happen one day and will all have to deal with it.
