This same School board and superintendent has now blocked access to a local forum on school computers that is critical of their decisions and the direction they are taking the district.

We dont need no education.
We dont need no thought control.
No dark sarcasm in the classroom.
Teacher, leave those kids alone.
Hey, teacher, leave those kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

If they're truly concerned with profanity and sexuality in the schools they need to patrol the bathrooms at the school games and dances. Check under the bleachers too. They might want to stop the girls dressing like hookers. There's a lot more profanity and sexually explicit language in the average high school student's daily conversation than there is in "Bless Me Ultima." I bet they were among those districts that banned "Catcher In The Rye" too. And, I bet whatever the whiner thinks she/he/it is protecting her/his offspring from is already being thoroughly enjoyed by said child...Les

I read this book several years ago. It wasn't a bad book. It was kind of interesting. It appeared to be true to life. And I was interested in the setting southeast of Santa Fe.

I bought the book at Border's on Kalakaua street in Waikiki and was surprised they had it when I walked in. Apparently it has made the rounds.

Sex and violence? This book was an afternoon tea social for the ladies home gardners compared with some others I've read, such as Romeo and Juliet, East of Eden, Sanctuary, and dare we mention the Bible?

No, it's not sex and violence. For those who've read the book, they will not need three reasons to guess the real reason for banning it.

:) exceptt for the stepping outside to fight ****, I think we could probably have some civil debate
I wasn't interested in a fight, thought you were interested and only thought you might win more easily if you just fought all by yourself. Of course fighting with yourself might not be civil either.

As long as they are reading a variety of themes, philosophy, history, ethic attitudes, etc. I could not care less what they read. I don't care if it is "the Joy of Sex,"" Turner Diaries," "the book of Mormon,” Carl Sandburg's “Lincoln,” In Cold Blood,” or Harry Potter.”
Unbelievable Placenta, you and I agree 100% on this one. No insults, no digs, no implied degrading humor, just total agreement. This is a fascist move on the part of the school. I personally have not read this book, and it MAY be age inappropriate for younger elementary kids, but banning books is wrong in a free society.
