"The book has been removed from classrooms in New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and California , and it was No. 75 on the American Library Association's list of most-banned books in the 1990s." I had never heard of the book before - Will have to send copies of the article to all my high-school aged nephews and nieces - would hate for them to miss out on a banned book. they always want ot jind the 'good parts.'

I don't recall anything offensive about this book and, in fact, it is one of my all time favorite books.

Sexually explicit scenes and an anti-Catholic bias? I think not!

Truly a sad and shameful day in the history of Newman. The Superintendent didn't even read the whole book before he pulled it from the curriculum. It's disgusting how the board refused to listen to the community who spoke out in defense of the book. I'm grateful that the ACLU is threatening a lawsuit, otherwise it would be "too bad" for those of us who still uhh, read..you know..like the constitution...first amendment? Idiotas!

they need to get on Hollywood's behind and change the name of that TV show title:

Californication

That is worse than anything in Bless me Ultima.

Yeah - they are props. Palin could be a cover girl on a 'nasty libarian' porn movie box. It would fly off the shelves.

As long as they are reading a variety of themes, philosophy, history, ethic attitudes, etc. I could not care less what they read. I don't care if it is "the Joy of Sex,"" Turner Diaries," "the book of Mormon,” Carl Sandburg's “Lincoln,” In Cold Blood,” or Harry Potter.”
