Parents and Family: Don't send anyone to Teen Challenge. Find another place and there are many good alternatives. Just because some good comes from something bad doesn't make it okay. Abuse and/or neglect are never ever acceptable. Just because some do well, doesn't excuse bad behavior. Find another place for your niece. You are gambling with her very life if you send her to TC. You've been told of the problems. You know. Don't play Russian Roulette with your child's life hoping it'll be okay. Its not okay. According to this facebook page, the Hall's have had one facility closed and they were cited for child abuse and neglect. You all know. You've been told there are problems. Don't gamble with your kid. Its your kid. Its your responsibility to protect your own kid. When there are accusations of abuse and you knowingly send your child into that situation, maybe hoping the accusations are not true, you are completely gambling with your child's very life, future, well being, and that is a serious offense. Find another program. There are other places that can and will truly help your child.

And yes...from what I understand, Lin Hall, the male director of NM Teen Challenge grabbed, kissed, and inappropriately touched young teenage female students entrusted to his care. My friend told me she was a victim and many years later still has nightmares.

If you send your kid to this program just because some good things have been reported and you discount the bad, you are gambling with your child's life hoping it'll be okay and you know what? It might not and if its not, that is on you because there is ample information giving information....and you've been warned of the problems.

Every prisoner in prison is innocent and has found Jesus. Yet if you wouldn't send your kid to live in prison with these guys and trust your kid to a prisoner's care, don't send your kid to people who have serious allegations going back years against them because they read the Bible to them. Don't risk your kid's future that way just hoping it'll be okay. Just because some kids either weren't abused or just learned to live with it and did okay, doesn't mean your kid will. That is an awfully big risk to take with your child's life. Its as risky as letting your kid go live with convicted felons, child molesters and murders because they "say" they are innocent and have found Jesus.

"The Program Promised to Help Your Child
You have a child with behavior issues or special educational needs and you sent them to a school or program that promised to help. Instead of providing needed guidance, discipline and encouragement, the program subjected your child to abuse, neglect and emotional torture. Someone should pay for the lifelong injuries, broken promises and shattered trust.@ wturley.com '"

I went to Teen Challenge in 1997 and God used them to help me and I have never returned to drugs. Everything in life has a darkside

Not supposed to be that way...everything does not have to have a dark side. Just because it has helped some who were strong enough to tolerate the "dark side" does not mean it is okay. It has damaged some for life and they will never be the same. A few right things don't justify the wrong.
The Hall's in NM have a substantiated complaint filed with CYFD (New Mexico Child Protective Services) for abuse and neglect. When a parent takes their child to TC of NM, they sign over custody of their kid to people who have had a lengthy history of abuse and neglect. There are multiple blogs going back years that document this history. I'm fairly certain they don't disclose this to prospective students and their parents. If they were cleared, they can simply submit a letter from NMCYFD showing they were cleared. If they cannot, they should at least be giving parents full disclosure. NM has a serious problem with facilities who say they provide help for troubled youth. There is no oversight or accountability. If you see this and as a parent, take your child there anyway knowing the problems and not at least asking for some proof that these problems aren't substantiated, there is something seriously wrong with you. I guess I'm not sure why anyone ever would think that abuse and neglect are okay in any situation just because they had the personal ability to find good somewhere in it. Abuse and neglect are never ever okay. It is insane to say that or think that. Sounds like some of that brainwashing worked on you.

This is another "religious" facility in NM that had abuse complaints. They have no oversight in NM for facilities that claim to be "religious", "faith based" "camps" or "ranches" that don't take state or federal funds. Its a serious problem over there. Wherever you take your child, you ARE responsible for what happens to them while they are there...like it or not. Its YOUR kid. Make sure there is oversight. Make sure you can make unannounced random visits to check on the welfare of your own kid. Make sure the Hall's in NM have advised you of any and all substantiated complaints in writing before you just sign your kid over to them. Legally, it would appear they have the obligation to do so and YOU as a parent, have the obligation to ask for it since its now all over the internet. And NEVER think abuse/neglect are okay under any circumstances. These people that defend that....something is wrong with them...including former students. There are serious wires missing in their head if they think for one minute any of it was ever okay. Its not.

Understand this.
TC is not certified as a re-hab. They are not state inspected for health, training, staff--nothing.
Their staff is not trained in teaching, first aid, nutrition, substance abuse and most are not "real" pastors".
Do you homework before you or a loved one goes there.
I was at the one in Muskegon Michigan for 11 months.
If anyone has questions about that TC, I will answer them truthfully, un-biased based on my first hand experience.
God Bless!!!!

i completed 15 months of teen challenge in turlock cal. there were some setbacks for me but overall it changed my life for the better .. with me it was some of the staff that i had problems with not the program ... those that were bias to certain people have been removed & the positions were filled with capable staff ... the majority of the students that go thru T.C. have a better life upon completion, some relapse but its really about how bad u want a real life instead of a drug or alcohol life

I think you were a lucky one. My son went to Teen Challenge in NM for about 11/2 to 2 years of his life at age 17. He came out in worse shape than he went in. Horrible place with no skills but slave labor, stress and bible babble. And I mean babble. The only thing he achieved there was a setback in his natural maturity, no life skills to move forward, and a mistrust of his Faith.

I am thanking God that his family was there for him after being put on a plane to OK with no money and a ' discharge' after completing his studies. He only received a GED (the state court ordered him back to complete his diploma) and was set back in his studies for many years. He was discharged for standing up for his family and not wanting to become a 'jailer' to the other boys there. I am blessed and thankful he was able to turn his life around with the help of his 'sinful, uncaring' family. It took him close to 5 years to do so. So, again, I am proud for you; but the Majority of young people coming out of this particular state program have not fared so well. The boys t.c. Was shut down for making the boys clean up raw sewage. But.. They were allowed to take a 5 minute rinse in the sewer shower water after working in it for hours in the heat. Then they were allowed to eat out of date, nasty molded food they cooked for themselves. Great place for a lost child to recover in!! No communication with family except to recite bible verses for the allotted time with the 'lead' on the phone at all times. Yes, I am a Christian and I pray the God I know will take care of this group of control freaks in His own way! I Trust only in Him; not some lunatic ex-cop and his wife with power in there thoughts and actions. It is a disgrace to our children. As a last resort, my sons father brought up to the lead 'lady' the question of his diploma being court ordered... She told him if he would keep all info to himself, she would send him an 'accredited diploma'. The paper he received was just that... basically, just another piece of paper!
