And they do...what the Nation is asking for is "cross commissioned" officers. That has nothing to do with the "checkerboard" area. These officers already patrol and answer calls when asked. Wherein the current problem/request lies is that the Nation wants the county/state to do it for free. What the Tribe is asking for is cross commisioning so
that the SO/state officers become responsible for calls on the reservation. If
they did answer a call on the reservation and then become the "testifying" official (in
Navajo Tribal Court), that will take officers away from patrol, travel time, overtime for
Tribal court (which will accomplish nothing if current Tribal laws are upheld), etc.,(which
is nothing more than a waste of taxpayer money and officer's time). I completely agree
with the Sheriff. If you want the "state's" help, be prepared to compensate these
officer's overtime, gas, official time, and be prepared to change the current laws and
penalties on the reservation. Do the crime, do the time...PERIOD, this is America...all
are equal.
Wow Alamo is in San Juan county?? I thought it was down south near Soccoro?

Didn't they just vote not having outside law enforcement help?
