You know they can use a computer and browse the internet just the same as you , So what does that say about you , with a so called assumption of them having a 3rd grade education I'd say they're doing better than you!I am new to this area and from the comments I see on this and other forums, the Navajo writing in seem to be very proud of their third grade education, most of them anyway. even the ones who profess to have a college education are not much "better" in their comments. I read them and go "huh?" "what is this person trying to say?" this is just another comment that won't get printed anyway, but feels good to get it off my chest.

I know live in Smithlake NM. I would like to get a ADT installed there. But do you think the NNPD-Crpt. or other police department would respond and drive out there in an Emergency??????? NO I don't think so, it takes them 1 hour, to 4hours, to not even showing up to get to the scene. I've seen and accident in the canyon going down to Crpt. and it took 2 hours for them to respond to the call, the Gallup ambulatory came and hour before they arrived. If they had responded to the call maybe the little girl would be alive, 1 injured and two died at the scene. On July 4,2008, my car stall out on the side of the road. So we pushed it to the far right and they impound that. I guess that NN cop had nothing better to do. Here I see a lot of vehicles on the side of the road with orange stickers park there for more than two weeks, and this was only for a few hours. Instead of fixing my car and making a payment, I had to BAIL it out for 241.00. KNOW DO YOU THINK THE NAVAJO NATION POLICE WOULD RESPOND TO US as the PEOPLE?????

I have no respect for a policeman that tells a citizen, "There's nothing we can do about it." I had a policeman tell me that once and I replied, "Do you think I'm dumb? I know that. But it's not your job to tell me you can't do anything. It's your job to tell me you will try your best!"
I watched my house from the bushes for a couple of nights and sure enough, I caught the prowler myself.
After another break-in, I called around to all the pawn shops until I found my stuff. The idiot used his sister's ID, so I traced him.
You can do a lot for yourself if you are willing.

You hit the nail on the head, that is the attitude that they project. The Navajo people show no pride in the things that they do have, they take no responsibility for the things that they do, they point fingers at everyone else (crying poor me), but are not willing to get their own house in order, and then look to everyone else to do for them, when they should be doing for themselves. If you want respect as a people then earn it, don't demand it, because the respect will never come. If you really want to start to fix the problems on the "Rez" then start at home. Teach your children respect, honor, responsibility (basically "right form wrong") and then hold them accountable, because lets face it this is an area where you have failed miserably. All of your problems as a people canít always be someone else fault, look in the mirror itís not all us, for the most part itís you. I will agree that the part of this issue that is others fault is that we have taken care of to much for to long and not held you responsible. I guess if you need an enallage, the Government is the irresponsible parent and the Navajo Nation is the out of control child.
I know you like to tout that your ancient beliefs and culture are all that are important, and while I think you should hold them near to you, this is not 1890 it's 2008, time to step up. Start fixing you own problems and I think you would discover you have a lot more support than you think you have.
Just my opinion....
