As an educator, I can tell you that in my experience the students were not dealt with by race but by behavior. If parents would teach students appropriate behavior they wouldn't need discipline.

For example, the excuse that 'loud talking' is cultural was made in this article (of course, by an activist!!!). In society, loud talking is YELLING. We ought to teach our kids that there are behaviors expected in certain settings no matter what the cultural norm.

Please don't continue to make excuses for students of diverse backgrounds. I'd say that in my experience only, 99% of the infractions are earned, not based on culture, but on behavior.

The fact that some students understand appropriate social norms more than others has nothing to do with ethnicity!

Oh and I can speak to this article because I AM a minority teacher and I work with culturally diverse students!

As a teacher for over 11 years at a diverse school I must say that this is not true.

A majority of our students that recieve infractions or are third partied are breaking the school or district code of conduct.

Discipline should come from the home but over the years this is no longer happening. I have had many parents making excuses or lying for their children skipping school, hitting, fighting, cussing at authority members, and ignoring phone calls or parent conferences. They think the teachers or administration, which is black, is picking on their child. We just want the child to do well in society.

Will they be able to go to college and yell, fight, cuss, or hit in class. I don't think so. Will they be able to go to a job and be successful doing this? Again, I don't think so. We have to think of the long term goal of helping our students to succeed in today's world.

I know my school has many teachers who try extremely hard to work with the student regardless of their homelife or background but we have to draw the line somewhere.

Due to the "activist" we now have a problem with the minority children receiving less diciplinary actions than the white students. For the first time this year at our school I have seen black teachers and students given privledges that white students and teachers are not receiving.

I have never seen reverse discrimination being practiced before until this year. We had a black principal for the first time in years. The black teachers were allowed to be out of dress code, take longer lunch breaks, miss faculty meetings, and be tardy to work. This was absolutely not tolerated for any white or hispanic teachers in our faculty.

Hopefully next year there will be more of a balance in our schools, but people have to realize what the purpose is in teaching today.

I think what they don't tell you is that in Fort Worth the blacks and hispanics outpopulate the whites. Most whites are in surrounding suburbian school districts.

It's amazing how people want to use their culture as an excuse for bad behavier. If we reward differencet races to act with improper behavier, then they will be unsuccessful at their own demise.

Yes and what this story from "A Liberal Dose" (the name says it all)says is Minorities are disciplined and then tells how many blacks there are they only focused on, not hispanics and Asians.

I completely agree with your assessment. I taught for a few years out of college. In the middle of every 6-week cycle, I would send a simple card to each parent with their child's progress. I was amazed, simply amazed at the responses I received. I say this with complete honesty and integrity, minority parents (majority black) would blame me while white parents and hispanic parents would address the child's faults. I was shocked by the different responses.

The fact of the matter is this, black people have been claiming oppression since the end of slavery. You would think that an oppressed society would do what it takes to rise up from that oppression. Instead, I see the majority of black students without personal goals and without drive.

Just because the teachers are spanking the students and holding them over after class doesn't always mean they are being diciplined....just look at Mary Kay Letourneau.

Your funny, yes, Liberal dose says it all. It's sounds to me that someone is playing the race card again. As far as Asians go, they probably don't get disciplined at school very much because the parents took are of that. Most Asians don't wind up in jail or welfare lines either. Why this politacally BS. can't people be responsible for their own actions without playing the race card, what a joke.

If they didn't have the chance to use the race card, then they may have to look at themselves as the problem. Personal accountability is something long lost in our society.

I agree completely, for those who play the race card will be there own demise. Shame on the government and media for giving into this race crap. I don't hear about Asians or Orientals complaining and using the race card, huh, maybe they are to busy getting good grades or working too hard.

I agree with the comments here.

Race has been used too many times in our culture as an excuse for less than acceptable behavior. It's ironic how blacks have fought against racism for years, just to practice it themselves. Years of fighting for racial equality, just to prove that those who fought to keep them oppressed were probably correct. Think I'm making this up? Just read the paper. Blacks are responsible for too much of what's wrong with our society today. Think I'm making this up? Just compare cities with documented crime rates and check the demographics. The most "dangerous" cities in America are heavily black populated cities. You can no longer say that whites etc. have an issue with black people because of their color, it's their behavior! Act like responsible members of society and watch have fast your color becomes invisible. Black school children are such a problem these days because most of their parents were high school even middle school students shorlty before they themselves started school. Black youth are siring children at an alarming and irresponsible rate.

Turn the music down, pull your pants up, stop using drugs, refrain from irresponsible sexual activity, pay your bills, refuse welfare and government subsidized housing, choose a job over robbing an innocent citizen, take care of what you own!, tell Al Sharpston and Jessie Jackson to shut up!(they've been using you as a crutch for their venomous vile rhetoric for their own promotion and you let them do it!!, oh yea - did I mention turning the music down? If blacks today would adhere to just a few of these basic "codes of behavior" life would take a dramatic turn. Martin Luther King must be rolling and rolling and rolling over in his grave right now at the thought of what his race has done to turn back the hands of time and ruin everything he fought for.

If this upsets you and you're black, rather than fire back with ranting, prove me wrong with your behavior. Start another race movement in the same manner King did, get out in the street and fight your own race and open their eyes to what they're doing to hurt themselves. Either way, I know nothing good will ever happen (in my lifetime), just look at the African continent. Blacks are the majority population (duh), and that continent is made up of more corrupt and "backward" countries than any other continent. It's inevitable that blacks will eventually snuff themselves out, or take over the world and throw mankind back in to the stone age. Ever watch "Planet of the Apes"? It's a prophecy.

Go ahead, cuss me for my words and accuse me of genuinely created my thoughts. My thoughts are disingenuous!! Blacks have created this feeling within me over a lifetime of watching them destroy everything. You're the reason for my feeling toward you.

Think I'm a white guy wearing a white pointy hood in my pick-up truck? No, I'm a black school teacher from Texas. It sickens me to see people look at me different because of what my race has done to me and my childrens future. I've spent my entire life wondering why whites and blacks don't get along - I detached myself from my color and watched. I watched and understood the variation in behavior and apathy and it made me sick. Feeling sorry for yourself does nothing but leave everyone around you sorry that you waste oxygen.

Black people of America!- Wake up, stand upright and behave, make a descent contribution to the Nation that has offered you so much. Many blacks feel that the Civil War was an effort to free slaves - not so, don't beleive me, read your history books! But, if you really feel that, then pay back the country that "freed" you prove the effort wasn't in vain!

Many people blame their failures on anything that does not point to themselves. The first step in fixing a problem or healing a hurt is to accept your own part of the responsibility.
Then there are those who have the perfect solution, but it does not require them to do anything or change their habits. The third group in this trilogy is the worst...they make a career out of stirring the pot. As long as it stays in turmoil they continue to be the "experts."
If you teach a child love and respect at home he/she will exhibit those qualities away from home. But if a child sees hate and confrontational behavior at home that's what will be reflected in their behavior away from home.
Minority or not...if the shoe fits, wear it.

Yes! Minorities fail to realize that they are responsible for so much in their own "little world". Take Katrina for example. Before, during and after the hurricane "others" were to blame for what happened. A minority mayor didn't take his job seriously and what followed became the most significant fiasco in history. And, the victims were completely at fault! How was President Bush responsible? Tell me, what did he do? Many fail to understand the limits and responsiblity of Federal Government vs State Government. The state of Lousiana was first and foremost responsible to the citizens of that state. The Feds can only get involved when asked. Sounds silly, but that's the system we've used for years, and it works. The Mayor of New Orleans and the Governor of Louisiana failed. Yet, these two idiots would have the populous blame a white president and create an undeserved sense of racism. Resonsibility and pride are key issues in a debate such as this. Does anyone remember the tornado that struck Greensburg, Kansas this past Spring? It devastated an entire "white" town, not just devastated, but practically wiped it from the face of the earth. Nothing remains. Did any of these folks resort to looting and play the blame game? Did they take FEMA for a ride and create a huge "bowl" of fraud for the Attorney General to eat? Even though this was a tornado vs. hurricane, the conditions were the same. The citizens of Greensburg had advance warning that threatening weather was approaching their small town too. They lost EVERYTHING! Yet, they heeded warnings and took the appropriate action. Saw their community destroyed and blamed noone. Blamed noone!! Asked for nothing and will make every effort to rebuild on their own. Now, the closest comparison - Katrina. Again the citizens knew what was coming, they saw their community get smashed - then they had the nerve to blame everyone but themselves for the horrific conditions they placed themselves in! Heck, they robbed and looted from their neighbors! If Ray Nagin was white, the blacks would have set the entire state on fire. But, I can almost bet, that the blame "game" went beyond/past him because the black community would never blame a black leader for any failure. They even re-elected the idiot. His "chocolate city" comment was another bad move and proves the role blacks play in racism also, because if a white politician said the same thing and referred to New Orleans as a "vanilla" city, his head would be on Al Sharpstons' table. Read the latest article in USA Today about the number of fraudulant claims that FEMA will have to address - 1000's!!

This thread has its' roots in the debate about unfair treatment of whites vs blacks. If this debate is to foster any real sense, silly yet real issues that I bring to the table can't be ignored.

Also, the term "reverse racisim" must be removed from the English dialogue! Racisim is racism. To make the comment that whites are ever victims of "reverse racisim" is garbage. As a black guy I have seen more blacks than whites make racist comments, I've seen blacks practice racisim continuously! Did you know that even Bill Cosby is a racist? Yes. I spoke with members of his professional staff one day, he won't hire whites. His private jet is manned by a black crew. Is this "reverse racism"? No. It's racisim. The double standard is too persistent and must be stopped. Blacks often practice the very "withcraft" they have fought to elminate.

Hypocrites, all of them.

You liar. How can you claim "Due to the "activist" we now have a problem with the minority children receiving less diciplinary actions than the white students". Across the country, black and Hispanic children are disciplined at a disproportionate rate. There is proof of it. And according to you, the black teachers are just as bad as the black students. And even the black principal doesn't know how to behave himself. Oh if only black people were as devine as whites. White kids are just perfect.NOT!! White kids cuss, fight, smoke, and etc. They just don't get punished the same. Black students don't even need to be taught by white teachers because most of them don't have morals or a conscience. The only reason you fools are complaining is because black people are getting fed up with it and are rising up.
