I live in Orlando, where Amber lived most of her life. The response here is crushing. There are students at school, including myself, who break down in class, repeatedly. Amber was one of my best friends, and if at all possible, I'd appreciate someone extending words of condolences to their families, from us down here in Florida.

We loved Amber, Jonathan, and Zach Elliott. I promise to send your love. There are several memorials that will take place this year, inside the school, outside of the school, and to the families. God bless all of Amber's freinds in Florida, I'm sure she loves your comments!

I was fortunate to have known Zach and Jonathan for qutie awhile. They were smart, outgoing, and kind hearted young men. They could always make you laugh and put a smile on your face when you were feeling sad. Jonathan was my heart I loved that boy so much. Everyday at school was always the best when me and him had homeroom together and lockers side by side and not to mention Mrs. Parkers class was awesome. He made it so much better. I used to always tell him that he was my school boyfriend and that I was going to marry him someday. I knew he would have made a good husband. He was so sweet. Had the prettiest blue eyes and gorgeous blond hair. He was cutie alright. Zach on the other hand was just amazing. Always easy going easy to get along with and could make a joke out of anything and make you laugh for hours on end. I had him in a few classes too. Very smart boy. Now Amber I really didn't get a chance to know her very well although I know she did have a great sense of humor as well. Most of the time she kept to herself and kind just paid attention to what was going on around her. She started to really open up to a few people and tehy accepted her and became close. I only wish I would have gotten to know her a little better. But nothing is going to stop me from remembering any of them. And to Zach Ruffner... We know you didn't mean to do any of this and that you loved them just as much as we did. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Don't let anybody get to you or push you down because of this we know you are having it rough right now and when you feel like you can't go on anymore just remember what they would have wanted you to do and think about all the people that love you and care about you. To the families I know it is hard and sometimes unbearable. But you have to keep going for the sake of the rest of your families and the sake of you children lives. They were special and loved. Just keep their memories alive with the stories you tell or the traditions at special occasions and holidays. Don't do anything out of the ordinary. Leave their pictures up and make sure that everyone knows that that was your baby and you love them with all your heart. I am so glad to have been a part of their lives and to have been in class with them I know I will forever remember them and they will forever be in my heart. With much love Haley Martin Class of 2007

I am extremely disappointed in Zach Ruffner. He told the three families that he was sorry the day after it happened yet every time they run into each other he never speaks or even acknowledges that they are there.

The families forgave him and wanted a fair sentence so that Zach wouldn't have anything on his record and still could go to school. He said that he would like to talk to other kids about speeding. That was great with the families but when it came time for him to do his community service he chose to take score at a baseball game instead....that's a great way to remember the three kids that died and help the community at the same time. I don't know if there was a better way to remember them.

Here's the worst part. It is July right now less than 6 months after he wrecked and already he has been seen driving without a license in his mothers car. Also, I just heard that he got a speeding ticket at Myrtle Beach this summer. I hope the news finds out about this and draws attention to the fact that he is a spoiled selfish brat.

It's taking all that I have not to be mean right now but I don't want to call names, just point out the fact that he is handling this in the worst way possible. Lying to families so that he didn't go to jail only to turn around and SPEED (not just drive but SPEED) again in a car without a license.

Way to show that you care Zach Ruffner. We appreciate all that you have done! If I was one of the families of the kids that you killed, I would be handling this situation much differently and you would not be driving again...EVER!

Well its July almost 6 mounths later... And still not a day goes by that we dont think of them... I miss Amber, Jonathan and zack.. But for people like the person above me to bash on Zack Ruffner its wrong... The BOY has a LIFE 2.. He made a mistake. Something he will have to live with the rest of he's life.. What do u think he should do cry about all this... I am not saying just let it go.. I am just glade to c that he made it this far.. They where he's best friends.. Nothing that happened was on purpose... I have talked to Jonathan and Amber's Family Amber lived next door to me... ANd like her mom said he is going to have a rough life something that either of us want to go through... She forgives him and Understands y he stayed distant at first he was scared.... As for the rest put Zack out there is wrong even more what he has done is he's buisness... But Bessemer City will never live this down every1 miss them... Just to go to the wreak site and c Three wooden cross of ur fellow class mates hurts more than anything... BUt like the song says "THERES 3 WOODEN CROSS ON THE RIGHTSIDE OF THE HIGHWAY Y THERES NOT 4 OF THEM HEAVEN ONLY KNOWS.. BUt I miss them all and wish Zack a sucssifull life and hope the best.

If you would read what I wrote instead of jumping on anyone with a different opinion you might actually see things in a different light. I said that the families initially forgave him.

Did you not read the part where I said he had been driving again, speeding again, and he got a ticket WITHOUT A LICENSE? If you think that makes the families feel good, then stop reading here because logic just doesn't work with you.

Perhaps you should stop and think "I may just be talking to one of the parents now" before you suggest how "they" might feel.

I am not bashing you and I didn't use any negative connotations in the previous post other than a little sarcasm. Perhaps sarcasm is too big of a punishment for murder?

If so I apologize. It's probably the worst punishment that Ruffner has had!

Heather- a mistake is forgetting to turn your signal on when changing lanes, or putting milk in the pantry instead of the refridgerator, not driving and killing others. He should fry, just like any other selfish bastard who makes the same "mistake" he did.

You seem like a very angry person. The way I see it Zach will deal with what happened when he is able to. I am sure it is not easy knowing what he did and it will eventually catch up with him. Meanwhile you should not harbor so much hate. It's not good for you.

I have been reading the comments on this page for some time. I 19 year old brother was in an accident on June 3rd of this year. His passenger was killed. From what I know right now, he was driving at a high rate of speed and had been drinking. Although his blood alcohol content was not at the legally drunk stage, he has been held in the county jail for an aggravated DUI charge and a wreckless homicide charge since June 22, 2007. Today is September 6, 2007. His trial is not until Oct. 15th. My parents, and my sisters and I, have decided to leave him in county and not pay the $10,000 that it would cost to get him out on bond. His bond was set at $100,000, in our state you pay 10 percent.

It has been the longest 2 and 1/2 months of our lives. He made a terrible mistake. But, we feel that he has to spend time to realize what he has done. He also gets double time credit for the time he spends in county.

The family of the girl that died in the accident is going for blood. They want my brother to pay with his life.

I don't live in your area...I don't know anything more than what I read here online. But I think Zach Ruffner was very lucky to have Amber, Zachary Elliott and Jonathan's parents to be so forgiving. I am not saying he should have gone to jail. But, if what disappointed posts is true, then Zachary Ruffner needs to take a hard look at his life. He needs to realize that what he got is a second chance. If he is out driving without a license and speeding, he needs to be punished. IF THAT IS TURE!!! He hasn't learned a thing...and all 3 of those lives were lost for nothing.

That is what we tell my brother. If you don't learn something from this, the young lady, I want to call her a little girl because she was only 17, lost her life for nothing. If you learn from this, then at least we can see God's purpose.

I pray for all the families. I pray for the souls of those who died, the families left to grieve for them, Zach Ruffner, that he may learn and turn this into something positive, and for the Ruffner family, because I feel your pain.
