what kind of nonsense is this. Nothing is sacred anymore. Thanksgiving is supposed to be a time for families to spend together. Close the restaurants, walmarts, and any other store that chooses to stay open. How pathetic. make any employee work so a big corporation can earn some money, and that employee does not get to participate in family activities. Its all about greed. Boycott this shopping day. Thanksgiving is not about a bunch of lunatics running in a store, grabbing, pushing, shoving just to get a twenty dollar item they could have went to knoxville to buy or purchase online. I say the heck with black crossville on thursday.

I take it you're one of us lucky ones that gets to work it. Well suck it up, do the job you're paid to do or quit. That simple.

Why is this news? Kmart has been open on Thanksgiving for a while now, it's not something new to retail in general, just to retailers who didn't have to do such things to this point yet.

In this ekonomy asking people to skip a good sale right before the holidays is like asking a man to give up his nuts.

I won't shop any of these stores open on Thanksgiving or Black Friday. I wouldn't fight the crowds for anything in their stores. You're right, it's all about greed. The greed of the stores, trying to make a buck before any other store, and the greed of the consumer, trying to save a couple of dollars. Spend time with your family, people. That's worth a lot more than saving a few dollars and forcing store employees to give up their family time.

Thank you! My family works in retail and we're still trying to figure out how we're going to do Thanksgiving this year because they have us all coming in. As far as a store being open on Thanksgiving yes that happens and you only need a few employees because the only people that come in are those who forgot something. When you add a black Friday sale to it you need every employee it's not fair but you have to suck it up to keep your job :(

Good for you, that you don't have to worry about "trying to save a couple of dollars". As for the rest of us, the people who are struggling and will have to do their Christmas shopping on a budget, these sales come in handy. For you to call someone "greedy" just because they shop the sales, well that's just plain ignorant. Has it never occured to you that perhaps not everyone is as blessed and fortunate as you and that some people just gotta do the best they can to make it happen?

It's not fair that people get to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving. We should raise taxes and take away from those who get to and give it to those who can't so they can go.

Um, did you happen to see where I said we all worked in retail? We appreciate a good sale too and nobody understands better then I do that around the holidays an already tight budget just seems to vanish. I'm not saying throw Black Friday out but i'm saying keep it on FRIDAY the day AFTER Thanksgiving and the one it was named after. Is shopping really more important then spending time with your family on Thanksgiving? Like I said i'm all for Black Friday I just think it should be on FRIDAY not on Thursday..not on Thanksgiving.

You do realize that spouting this type of stupid nonsense is part of the reason the Republicans lost the election, right? Stupid doesn't appeal to the majority of voters.

if you understand so well why did you post in your previous comment that if customers shop it, they are just being greedy?

everybody knows retail sucks, especially at the holidays cause if that's your job you are.....oh wow....expected to work. here's a thought. if you and your family don't want to run the risk of having to work on a holiday, get out of retail. don't come on here bitching and whining when there are plenty of people that would be more than happy to take your spot, working holidays and all, just to actually have a job.

I understand just fine clearly you're the one having some hiccups in what i'm saying so pay attention..

I do not mind working Black Friday..

I do mind when I have to work Thanksgiving because some people feel the urge to shop a few hours earlier.

And I said I understand getting a good deal around the holidays. Most everybody is strapped for cash these days, but you better believe I would not take myself away from my family on a holiday that we're suppose to be appreciating what we already have to go shopping!

Black Friday is not a holiday.
Thanksgiving is.

This thread is not hating on Black Friday, the deals, or the people that shop them. It's about the fact that the retail market is moving it to THANKSGIVING.

Do you understand now? I can't make this much clearer for you. Try re-reading the original poster.

Also, my job as well as my husbands is hiring. They have for months. People come in and quit after a week or two. So this group of people you know willing to take my place tell them to apply at all the large retailers in town because they are ALL hiring.

To clarify. I made the first post and this post under this Nick. Someone else is also using this Nick to post under. If you will notice the city listed by the Nickname, it shows mine as being in Cookeville and the other poster in Crossville.
Maybe that clears up a little confusion there.
So if I understand your opinion in this, it's not greedy for you to want to shop on Thursday, instead of waiting until Friday? So by approving of the earlier shopping frenzy on Thanksgiving day, you also approve of taking people away from their families and denying them the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with their loved ones? They do have a job and want to keep it. But you don't care about that, so long as you get to save a few dollars. I think I understand now where you stand on the matter. It's all about you. You are the one who has to deal with your conscience. I'm not burdening mine by shopping Thanksgiving day. Thanks for the discussion. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
