So Pete's plan is to raise city property taxes to pay off this debt!

Good for him!

We need to pay more taxes and clear this debt.

What does he plan to raise taxes to?

So is Petey going to pay this off out of his personal fortune? I have yet to see any kind of a plan from Mr. Souza other than pointing fingers. What is his plan for this debt? Does he even have a plan? I doubt he does...

You have to stop the bleeding before you can start the healing. Eliminating waste and preventing further debt from increasing must be done before any steps can be taken to pay off what is now owed.
That in itself is a step that Boyd has refused to offer to make.
What is Boyd's stance on the status of Crossville? Does he think there is too much debt? He certainly doesn't seem to support that notion.

You know you could have asked him at the meet and greet at the library a few weeks ago if you really gave a damn. You obviously don't care that's why you're here asking no one about what his plans are. Ask him what his plans are, not the computer.

The biggest chunk of the city debt is actually shared among everyone in the county who buys water from the city or their utility district buys water from the city. The real number per city taxpayer is much smaller than Pete claims!

So you don't know what the number is. Then you cannot claim that Pete's number is wrong.

Pretty sure that Pete got his number from taking the total of City Debt and dividing it amongst the total number of City residents. That's the way I learned math, but then again, I'm not a Politician who tries to find ways to twist things around to suit my needs. Pete got voted in by the City residents. You may as well learn to deal with that. When Graham and the rest of his gang's terms runs out, they will be replaced also.

Sorry really, but you obviously can't do math. If you divide the debt by less people than it serves you get an F for math class!

Political spin. Still meaningless. Changes absolutely nothing.

Keeping your head in the sand is typical of souza's posse! You beleive what you are told, NOT facts. No wonder we are in such a fix!

The "fix" you are talking about is exactly what Pete got voted in to change. Going into debt using income that you project could come in is what is wrong with the system, not only in Crossville, but nationwide. Debt is bad. Building up a cash balance and learning how to best manage what cash is available, not what debt you have access to, is what will make this city strong.

Frodo is a typical Graham lemur. I understand that maybe your job is dependent upon whether the current political landscape in Crossville remains the same. You may have to find a real job where you actually have to earn your keep. I, for one, would prefer my children and grandchildren not have to pay off the debt that I foolishly left them, so I can selfishly live beyond my means.

FYI, under STATE LAW, the debt for the water and sewer system is TOTALLY SEPARATE from the debt for the general fund. Once again, that is STATE LAW!

So that debt is spread over all of the customers and CAN NOT be paid back out of GENERAL FUND tax revenues. That would include Sales Tax and Property Tax!

Did you know this Really? I would guess not. Whether Mr. Souza knows this I can't say. I can tell you he is also not good at math.

And speaking of SPIN!

Debt is debt and no part of it is good. Mortgage your children's lives if you want to. I'm voting for someone who will help Crossville prosper, not just the politicians and their buddies.

Paid cash for your home and car did you? Or do you just rent?

All debt is not bad. That is the unfortunate mindset of people who are less educated in financial matters. And typical of Souza's blind followers!

Sure, it makes perfect sense to want something right now bad enough to pay more than what it's worth. Let's just write a check for more than we have. Brilliant idea. Get over it.
