Homestead will give them a run for their money, now that they know what to expect. What's sad is South has to hold kids back just to compete. What a joke!

At south its all about the name! They have basketball tryouts and take no new kids. I'm talking about tryouts for 3rd and 4th grade. It really makes me mad at that age group that it depends on your last name!!!

Now that they know what to expect? Oh come on! South would beat them again in a heartbeat. It has nothing to do with them holding their kids back. Let me remind u it is the parents choice. They practice year round and put a lot of time money and traveling into it. All of which every other school has the opportunity to do but apparently chooses not to. When u have to play games out of county just to get some competition is pretty sad. But south burns them out too quick. I mean how many south players actually go and play basketball in high school? Think about it.

Are you serious??? What happened...did your kid try out and not make it? Because they did have a tryout and at least 6 new girls were added to the jv team.

And you know this how???? For your information, South has ONE girl on the JV team that WAS NOT held back, but started school late. The rest of the team is in the grade they are supposed to be in. Thesr girls work hard year round and just because no other school in this county wants to put the time in to be able to compete with them should not give everybody else a reason to make stupid statements like this!

Yeah, I went through this crap with elementary ball also. My son played from 4 grade on, travel ball, MVP 8th grade etc, and got fed up with the favoritism and decided not to play in high school. It bothered me the first year because he is a very good all around athlete, but I'm over it now. Oh and by the by ya'll ain't touched the surface if the truth be known.

IMHO most people should quit whining. If elementary basketball is so important to you and your children then have them practice and play more. I don't have anything to do with South, but I know the coaches and many of the parents and can honestly say that they have paid their dues. Their kids show up to practice, work hard, and are good because they have earned it. Further more, welcome to the real world. Those who work the hardest, and sacrifice the most, are usually the best. Most of the kids on the other teams don't put in 1/10th the time. That is reality. Like it or not.

IMHO holding a student back for sports is stupid, and I certainly never held any of mine, but that is the parents decision.

Wake up Crossville! You want to know why the high schools do not do any better than they do well this is your answer right here. You have to work at the beginner level to get anywhere at the next level. You have to put in hours..yes hours of work from the beginning. Programs off this mountain start out putting more hours in than south does. It also goes back and forth on who rules the elementary courts. Which ever school has the kids, parents and coaches who put in the hours of work rules. Stop crying about kids being held back and last names and start getting your kids in the gym. Take them off this mountain and get with real teams that work and see what it really takes. Yes they can get burned out but if you look at the high school teams you will see that most of those kids still playing are from south and homestead.

This is so Crossville lol. excuse after excuse. One kid might be held back and you all act like it is the whole team. A kid with a last name that everyone knows works just as hard or harder because of that last name because they have to. GROW UP!! Get yout kids in the gym and playing more games. AAU is where it is at. What you do in the off season is what you have when it counts. Some will cry o this is why we need a middle school. Well it will be the same kids from these schools who work that would make that team and you all would still cry with the same excuses. If you want your kids to be able to compete then get them in the gym. Put in the time with AAU and privite leasons. Have them outside shooting and dribbling and running after they are in the gym. This is what it takes. You have to compete with better players to get better. It is not going to be handed to you or your child. It is not upwards where you pay to play.

SOuth has the teams to beat this year at the varsity level. They have worked more than anyother team in this county, and from what I seen last year, they have some very well behaved players, and they have earned everything the will get with this team. BUt what amazes me is the fact that a school would allow a parent to hold a kid back, just so they can be better at sports, or have more time at the middle school level, when we are constantly fighting budget issues in our school system. Two years ago they where going to cut out busses to save money, but we could afford to repeat kids because the parents wanted them held back in schools that are already over crowded. If parents where told to bring thier kids after school for 12 hours a week of tutoring to improve the test scores of our schools, the would be livid. But since its sports it's ok. Now we know why the number of students who graduate these schools never finish college. I don't see any posts on here about who is worrid about an education.

Do they still have that one school that practices year round and when they play somebody they are still pressing during the game when they are up 40 to 12 ?

Now comes the part about grades and running up the score. hahaha it is always the same.To be a ball player you have to have the grades or you do not get to play. Not only do these kids play ball they have great grades...try again.Of course now we will hear how they get the grades handed to them but that will not work either because their tcap scores prove you wrong once again. It does not matter if they press or play man to man. The other teams should be able to break a press or handle man on man. The next thing that will be brought up is that the best players should be taken out. You are not helping your kids become better players by hurting the ones who work hard. Get your teams in the gym. Nothing you come up with will excuse the lack of gym time. If you want to be at that level you will have to be in the gym. next will come the fuss about coaches..this is so so funny.
